Q50 Hybrid Electric Coolant Pump Issues Owner Seeks Help

Overheating

|

Check engine light on

Hey everyone, my 2019 Infiniti Q Hybrid is having issues lately. Engine's running hot and the check engine light is on. I suspect it might be the electric coolant pump failing, as the symptoms seem to point that way. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? I'd really like to know what the repair process looked like and what kind of costs I might be looking at. Any input from those who've had this fixed would be super helpful. Thanks!

Hey there! I've got some experience with hybrid systems . Had a similar issue with my 2017 Infiniti QX Hybrid last year, and I also own an M Hybrid. That overheating + check engine combo got me worried too! Turned out it was indeed a faulty cable connection to the electric coolant pump. Had it fixed at my local workshop for about €95 they basically replaced the damaged cable and did a quick system check. The whole thing took about 2 hours. What's your mileage and have you noticed any other symptoms? Like weird noises from the pump area or temperature fluctuations? Let me know these details so I can better understand if your issue matches what I experienced. Take care!

Thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is at 13399 KM and I just had the service done last month. I haven't noticed any weird noises, but the temperature gauge has been acting up, especially during city driving. Sometimes it fluctuates even when I'm just idling. I'm relieved to hear your repair wasn't too expensive I was worried it might be something major. Did you notice any improvement in performance after the fix? I might take it to the dealer this weekend if the problem persists.

Hey again! Yeah, I totally remember when my QX had those temperature fluctuations it's super annoying, especially in city traffic! After getting that cable connection fixed, the performance difference was like night and day. The temperature stayed rock-steady, and the check engine light hasn't come back since. But here's something interesting your symptoms sound a bit different from what I experienced. With mine, there was this faint buzzing noise before the temperature started acting up, but you're not getting any weird sounds. Since you've just had your service done last month, maybe double-check with your dealer about what they did during the service. Sometimes these issues can be related to air pockets in the cooling system after maintenance. My mechanic mentioned this when I brought mine in. 13399 KM is pretty low mileage though mine was acting up around 45000 KM. You might still be under warranty, so definitely take it to the dealer this weekend. Better safe than sorry, especially with these hybrid cooling systems! Let me know how it goes at the dealer I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue I had. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for all the detailed info! You make a really good point about checking with the dealer about the recent service I'll definitely bring that up. And you're right about the warranty I just checked and I'm still covered, which is a huge relief! I'll schedule that appointment for this weekend and make sure to mention everything we've discussed, especially about checking for air pockets in the cooling system. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and suggestions. I'll update the thread once I find out what's actually causing the problem. Thanks again for all your help!
