Q50 Fuel Pump Failure? Warning Signs & Help Needed

Loss of engine power

Longer cold start time

Check engine light on

Car won't start

Jerking on acceleration

Engine shuts off by itself

Unsteady engine

Hey there, I'm dealing with some serious issues with my 2020 Infiniti Q (191k km) and could really use some input. My car's been acting up lately unusually shutting off, struggling to start when cold, and losing power while driving. The check engine light is on, and there's noticeable jerking during acceleration. I suspect it might be the fuel pump, but after a previous bad experience with a mechanic, I want to be better informed this time. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? If so, was it actually the fuel pump, and can you recommend a reliable mechanic who fixed it properly? Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I had very similar issues with my 2018 Infiniti QX50 last summer. The symptoms you're describing match what I experienced unusual shutoffs, cold start problems, and power loss. In my case, it turned out to be incorrect software values for the fuel pump control module, not the pump itself. Took it to the dealership after my local mechanic couldn't figure it out. They ran diagnostics and found that the ECU wasn't properly regulating fuel pressure. They had to reprogram the fuel pump control module and update the ECU software. It wasn't a huge repair, but it was crucial to fix it before it could cause damage to other components. I'd definitely recommend getting it checked at an Infiniti dealership first they have the specific diagnostic tools for these issues. It's worth noting that these symptoms could lead to serious problems if left unchecked, especially with your mileage being quite high. Take care.

Hey, thanks so much for sharing that info! I actually did end up taking mine to the dealership as you suggested. They diagnosed the same issue with the fuel pump control module and ECU. Can't remember exactly what I paid for the fix though do you recall how much yours set you back? Also curious if you've had any similar issues pop up since getting it fixed? My car's been running smoother, but always good to know what to watch out for.

Hey again! Glad to hear you got it sorted at the dealership! Yeah, I remember exactly what I paid it was 450€ for the software update and reprogramming of the fuel pump control module. Pretty reasonable considering how much trouble it was causing! And nope, absolutely zero issues since they fixed it last summer. The car's running like a dream now no more of those scary unusual shutoffs or cold start problems. It's such a relief! The jerking during acceleration completely disappeared too. I keep up with regular maintenance now just to be on the safe side, but honestly, once they corrected those software values, it was like having a different car. You made the right call going to the dealership they really know their stuff with these specific Infiniti quirks. Keep an eye on it, but I'd say you should be good to go now. These cars are pretty solid once you get the electronic gremlins sorted out! Take it easy!

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I paid around 500€ for mine pretty close to what you paid. It's such a relief to hear you haven't had any issues since then. You know, it's funny I was actually at the mechanic just yesterday for the regular maintenance check, and the guy was telling me how common these electronic issues are in newer cars. He spent a good 30 minutes explaining how everything's controlled by computers now. Made me miss my old '95 Honda that just needed basic mechanical fixes! But yeah, the car's running great now. No more heart attacks when it unusually dies at traffic lights! I'm definitely sticking with the dealership for any future electronic issues learned my lesson after wasting time with that other mechanic who just kept replacing unusual parts. Thanks again for all your help! Really saved me from potentially making some expensive mistakes. Take care!
