Problems with uneven engine running and increased fuel consumption in the 2009 Ford Everest - experience and suggested solutions wanted

Check engine light on

|

Strong exhaust smell

|

Shaking while idling

|

Loss of engine power

|

Poor fuel economy

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my 2009 Ford Everest gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, the power is greatly reduced, the fuel consumption is bad, the exhaust stinks and the car shakes when idling. I think that the uneven engine running is responsible for this. Have any of you ever had similar symptoms and if so, how did you get it fixed at the garage? What experiences have you had? I would appreciate any tips to help narrow down the problem. Thank you in advance.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2007 Ford Ranger. I'm not an auto mechanic pro, but I do have a bit of experience with cars - so I'd say I have "some" car knowledge. At the garage, they found false air due to defective or porous rubber hoses and a defective crankcase breather as the cause. It cost me 235 euros. I would suggest that you also have the workshop look at these points. Which engine do you have? And are there any other symptoms? Then I might be able to help in more detail.

Hey, thanks for your answer. My Everest has the 2.5 TDCi with 143 hp. There aren't really any other symptoms, but the 76962 km it now has on the clock sounds like a logical reason according to your explanation. Nobody has ever told me about a defective crankcase ventilation system or porous hoses, so thanks for the tip! I'll have it checked out at the next workshop visit!

All right, my Ranger also had around 72,000 km on it when the problems started. So the mileage is right. In my case, the car shook even more when stationary when the air conditioning was running - that was another symptom I forgot to mention. Maybe that's something else you can look out for. But overall, I would say that it sounds very much like air leakage due to defective hoses and/or crankcase ventilation. Definitely have this checked, preferably before it gets worse. Take good care of your car, man!

Thanks for your further input, really great of you. Yes, I'll definitely keep an eye on it and test whether the shaking becomes more pronounced when the air conditioning is running. If that's the case, then it has something to do with your theory. I'll definitely bring this up at the next workshop visit. It's good to know that you have people like you who share their experiences! I will definitely take good care of my car. Your help is worth its weight in gold, thank you once again!
