Thanks for the suggestion, it sounds like your problem was similar but not quite the same. My Auris already has 266488 km on it. There were no particular problems at the last service. I just find it strange that the symptoms have appeared relatively suddenly. A friend of mine is a car mechanic, maybe he can connect the diagnostic device and take a look at it. A thousand euros is a pretty hefty sum, but it looks like it's not going to be cheap fun.

No problem, always happy to help! Yes, it sounds a bit different, but my Yaris also had similar symptoms, especially the black smoke and the unsteady running of the engine. My car only had 120,000 km on it though, not like your Auris. I would definitely ask your buddy to hook up the diagnostic device. Maybe he can also give you a good tip on what you could do and whether it really is the cold start injection valve. And you're right, a thousand euros really isn't a lot, but it helped in the end. Hopefully it won't be quite so expensive for you. Keep your fingers crossed!

Thank you brother! Your words have given me some hope. I'll take your advice and ask my buddy to have a look. I hope it won't be too expensive. Maybe I'll be lucky and it will be a minor repair. In any case, thanks for the help and good wishes, I needed it. Also, I don't want my Auris to go to the scrapyard. I really like this car and it pains me to see it suffer. Have a nice day!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2012 model Toyota Yaris. I have virtually no car knowledge, but here's my story. I ended up going to a garage. They hooked up the diagnostic tool and it showed engine control unit faulty. It was probably broken, so they replaced it. The whole thing cost me 1000 euros. Of course, I can't help you without the exact vehicle data, but perhaps you could visit your garage and have the fault memory read out.
