Problems with the windshield heating on the Citroen C5 Diesel, model year 2011

Hello everyone, the windshield heating on my Citroen C5 Diesel, built in 2011, is not working. The window heating no longer works and there is a stored error in the system. Could the problem possibly be due to a functional limitation of the windshield heating? Have any of you ever had a similar problem and can perhaps give me a few tips on how this was solved in the workshop or what experiences you have had? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2009 Citroen C4 Picasso. I'm not an automotive expert, but I have some experience with cars and repairs in general. In my case, the windshield heating element was defective, which was pretty much the same problem you describe. After a visit to the garage, the heating element was replaced. That cost me 585 euros. But without more detailed information about your vehicle, it's difficult to give specific advice. Can you perhaps give more details about the symptoms and error messages? Then I might be able to help you better.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! My C5 now has 74873 KM on the clock and the last service was only recently. The error message is pretty generic and just says that the "windshield heater" has failed. For better or worse, I'll have to take it to the garage to have it checked. Just hope I can get away with under 600 euros! Thanks again for your help!

Hey, no problem! Your C5 already has a few kilometers on the clock, so it could well be that the heating element is simply at the end of its service life. The cost of course depends on the workshop and the exact cause of the problem, but in my C4 Picasso it was around 585 euros. If the error message is just "windshield heating failed", it could simply be a problem with the control element, which is hopefully cheaper to fix. In the worst case, however, you could also expect to have to replace the entire windshield. So take it to the garage and see what they say. Keep your fingers crossed that it's nothing serious and that you can get away with it for less! You're welcome and good luck!

Hello, thank you for the excellent explanations and the helpful tips. I have an appointment at a garage on Monday and will hopefully then have clarity as to what is really going on. At least now I'm armed and know what to expect. You've helped me a lot. Thank you again and all the best!
