Problems with the warning light and brakes on Toyota Hilux petrol 2018 - experiences and solutions wanted

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hi guys! I've recently started having a problem with my 2018 Toyota Hilux petrol. The warning light in the speedometer is coming on and I suspect the brakes may be worn. Have any of you ever had a similar problem and can give me tips on how best to diagnose it? I'm also curious how you solved this in the workshop and what your experiences were. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, I'm rather semi-professional when it comes to cars, but I had a similar problem with my Toyota Rav4 Diesel, model 2016. In my case, the DSC/ABS control unit was defective, which is rarely the case. I solved the problem in a trustworthy workshop. The specialist checked the control unit and determined that it needed to be replaced. I paid 1000 euros for this. Can you please give me more information about your Hilux, such as mileage, condition of the brake disks and whether you have noticed any unusual noises recently? This would help to better assess the situation and help you further. Hope this helps a little to get you started.

Hey, thanks for the answer. So, my Hilux already has 269789 KM on the clock. The brake disks still look okay, but I've noticed a strange squeaking noise on the right side recently. Maybe it has something to do with that. The last service was last year, so it's been a while. The mechanic said at the time that everything was still fine. But as it is, you never know... Thanks for the info about the DSC/ABS control unit, that might also be the case. I think I'll just take the car back to the garage and have it checked. More safety is always better. Thanks again for your help!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for, to help each other. With this mileage and the strange squealing, the brakes could actually be a problem. I would definitely advise you to have it checked at the garage. The DSC/ABS control unit should also be checked at this mileage. I had this problem with my Toyota at 200,000 KM. It never hurts to have it checked again. It shouldn't cost you too much. Safety always comes first! Please keep us up to date with what the workshop says. Maybe it will help others here in the community. Have a safe journey and hopefully the problem will be solved soon!

Thanks for the advice. I will take the car to the garage as soon as possible and get it all checked out. The noise is getting louder and louder over time, so it's probably time I did something about it. And thanks for the tip about the control unit, I'll have that checked too. I'll definitely let you know what comes out of it and hopefully my experience will help others here too. I'll be driving a little less for the time being until the problem is solved. Safety first, you're right! Thank you very much and I wish you a safe journey!
