Problems with the transmission of the Renault Koleos Diesel 2011 - experiences and troubleshooting tips

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Grinding noise when shifting gears

Hey, does anyone have experience with strange problems with a Renault Koleos Diesel, built in 2011? My gearbox slips and shifts strangely and I hear a grinding noise when shifting. I have a suspicion that it could be the transmission control unit. Has anyone ever had similar problems and can provide troubleshooting tips? I would be particularly interested to know what was actually done in the workshop and what your experiences were.

Moin moin, I have a bit of experience with cars, but I'm no expert. I experienced a similar issue with my 2013 Renault Kadjar. It was just such a transmission control unit that was defective. This device is responsible for controlling the automatic transmission and can cause such problems. I went to my local garage and they were able to identify the fault and replace the faulty unit. It cost me about 1000 euros, which isn't exactly cheap, but compared to possible engine damage it's probably the lesser of two evils. Can you tell me more about your car, such as the mileage and how often you change the gearbox oil? The more information I have, the better I might be able to help you! Greetings

Hey, thanks for your reply. My Koleos has only just clocked up 24850 km, it's a real sweetheart. And its last service was only a short time ago, so it's probably not that. It's good to know that your experience with the transmission control unit could be very helpful for my Koleos. The price does scare me a bit, but what's a must, right? Regards

Hi, I'm glad my experience has helped you! Yes, your Renault Koleos is definitely still a youngster with such a low mileage. There shouldn't be much wear there yet. As your car has only recently had a service, the gearbox oil should be fresh. So it's very possible that the transmission control unit is actually the culprit. I know the price is steep, but we also have to keep in mind that it's a major repair. It's definitely cheaper than taking the risk of complete transmission damage or even engine damage. And who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and it will cost less in your case. Best regards

Hey, you're absolutely right! I hadn't even thought about the risk of complete gearbox or engine damage. Then it will probably be the lesser evil to have the transmission control unit replaced. Thanks for your advice, I'll probably go to the garage next week and have it checked. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it might be cheaper for me. Best regards

Hello. A few days ago I was driving my Toyota aygo gasoline 2011 with automatic transmission (I always go with the sequential) and suddenly the ABS light came on, but went out after 5 seconds. Yesterday I took the car and noticed that when changing gear it made a strange noise. If I shift at 2000 revs I don't notice anything but from 2100 I do. It's as if the gear change is getting longer, especially when I shift to 2nd and 3rd. It occurs to me that it is as if some gear does not fit well when changing gears and that is why it takes longer to put the gear, it sounds like something metallic. It also sounds when I'm accelerating and I stop accelerating at 3000 rpm. Do you know what it could be?

It sounds like you might be dealing with a transmission issue. The strange noise and the delay in gear shifting could be due to worn-out transmission components, such as the synchronizers. These are responsible for smoothly engaging the gears. If they're worn out, they can cause the gears to engage slowly or not at all, which could be the metallic sound you're hearing. However, it's also possible that the issue could be related to the transmission fluid. If it's old or low, it can cause shifting problems. I'd recommend starting with a transmission fluid check and change if necessary. If the problem persists, it's best to have a mechanic inspect the transmission for any possible damage.

Hi William, it sounds like your Honda CRV might have suffered some damage due to running low on transmission fluid. The first step is to refill the transmission fluid to the correct level. However, if the gears still won't shift after refilling, there might be damage to the transmission that needs to be inspected by a professional. It's important to get this checked as soon as possible to prevent further damage. Please update us on your progress.
