Weird engine noise

Hello everyone, I currently have a problem with my Peugeot 408 (gasoline, year of manufacture 2016). In short, the engine is no longer running smoothly: the check engine light is on, the power is gone, the engine runs rough and jerks when accelerating. I also notice increased fuel consumption and hear strange noises from the valve clearance and from the engine block. My first suspicion is a faulty camshaft adjustment. Do any of you have experience with such symptoms and can give me a few tips? I would also be interested to know what was done in the workshop to rectify the problem. Any help is welcome!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my Peugeot 406 (gasoline, year of manufacture 2014) some time ago. I already have some experience in car mechanics, so I'm not a complete beginner. Unfortunately for me, the camshaft timing was defective due to worn rubber sealing rings. Everything had to be repaired in the workshop. That cost me a whopping 1620 euros. Can you perhaps give me more information about your car and the symptoms? Then I might be able to help you more specifically. I hope that helps you for now!

Hi, thanks for your quick reply! My Peugeot 408 from 2016 has 47878 KM on the clock. No particular problems were found during my last inspection, everything was still running perfectly. But now these specific problems have arisen: Engine runs out of round, lack of power, jerks when accelerating, increased fuel consumption and strange noises from the valve clearance and from the engine block. So if you have any suggestions or can explain to me what was done during the repair in the workshop, that would be great. Thank you!

Hey, your problem sounds very similar to what I had with my Peugeot 406. The camshaft phasing was the culprit. During my repair, the defective cam phasers were replaced and the valves were readjusted. It could also be a problem with the engine control unit, which is sending incorrect information and thus causing the jerking and high fuel consumption. But that's just a guess on my part. I'm sure that a visit to the workshop will clarify things for you. I'm sorry that I can't give you a definitive answer, but hopefully my experience report will help you a little. Please make an appointment at the workshop and have it checked thoroughly. All the best and I hope it won't be too expensive!

Hi, thanks for the detailed reply! Your experiences and assumptions have helped me a lot to get a clearer picture of what could be wrong with my car. I will take your advice and make an appointment at the garage to investigate the problem more thoroughly. Let's hope it doesn't get too bad (and expensive). Thanks again for your help! All the best to you too!

Peugeot error P0011, can I continue driving with it?

@Fischi08

Peugeot error P0011, can I continue driving with it?

Hello Fischi08, P0011 indicates an issue with the camshaft timing being more advanced than commanded by the ECM, potentially due to a faulty camshaft position actuator solenoid, dirty or low engine oil, or a problematic camshaft phaser. Continuing to drive with this error could lead to increased fuel consumption, poor engine performance, and possible serious engine damage. It's recommended to first check and replace the engine oil if necessary, but if the issue continues, it should be professionally inspected and repaired to avoid further complications. Please keep us updated on your progress. Best regards, CarlyAdminNik
