Problems with the parking distance control and electrical faults in the Ford Freestyle 2007 - experiences and suggestions for solutions wanted

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Park distance control without function

General electric malfunction

Fault stored

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2007 Ford Freestyle with a gasoline engine. The parking distance control no longer works, there are general electrical faults, the fault memory is full and the warning light in the speedometer is illuminated. I suspect that a functional limitation of the parking aid could be the culprit. Have any of you had similar problems and can give me some troubleshooting tips? How did you get this solved in the workshop and what experiences have you had? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2005 Ford Edge. I'm not a professional mechanic, but I do have a bit of experience. At my garage, they discovered that my parking aid control unit was faulty. Without hesitation, I had it replaced, which cost me around 355 euros. Since then, everything has been running like clockwork again! Can you perhaps tell me a bit more about the electrical faults and the error message you are seeing? Maybe then I can help a little more. What do you think?

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. Well, I last serviced my Ford at 66456 km, but these electrical faults are really annoying. The systems keep crashing and troubleshooting is a real pain. The fault memory is full to the brim and I don't understand why the warning light still comes on even though I've checked everything. As for the parking aid control unit, I've also thought about it, but it costs a lot of money, as you said. Is the repair at the garage the last option or are there any other check-up points I can work through? Thanks again!

Hey, I can fully understand your frustration, these electrical faults are really annoying! Okay, so first of all: error messages are one of those things... It may well be that the problem with you is really the control unit, as it was with me at the time. But hey, don't panic, the price I quoted was at my garage. Otherwise, you can of course try a bit more, maybe it's just a small thing. What about the fuses, for example? Have you checked them all? Just check whether there is a broken cable somewhere. If you're unsure, it's best to take your Ford to the garage for a diagnosis. They will definitely be able to help you. Of course, it would be great if it's not the control unit, but if it is, remember that it's a worthwhile investment. So that the good Ford can remain loyal to you for a long time to come! I hope you find the cause quickly! All the best with it!

Hello and thanks again for your detailed reply and valuable advice. You're right, it really could be a small thing. I haven't checked the fuses yet, but I will definitely do that. A broken cable is also worth considering. I think I'll take my Ford to the garage for a diagnosis as you suggested. At the end of the day, safety and my peace of mind is really worth something to me. Hopefully it won't be necessary to replace the ECU, but if it has to be done, then it has to be done. With any luck it will only be a minor thing.... Thanks for your good wishes too, I can really use that! I'll keep you up to date. See you then!
