Problems with the Opel Antara 2010: Black smoke, loss of power and uneven engine running

Poor fuel economy

Shaking while idling

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Car won't start

Stalling while idling

Hello folks! I'm currently having problems with my Opel Antara, built in 2010. I see black smoke when accelerating, the indicator light is on, I notice a loss of power and the engine runs unevenly. The car also jerks when accelerating, won't start, guzzles more fuel than usual and stalls or vibrates when idling. I suspect some kind of problem with the ignition coil or misfiring. Have any of you had similar experiences or have any tips for isolating the fault? How did you get this solved in the workshop and what were your experiences? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello, this reminds me of my car, an Opel Astra, built in 2008. I would describe myself as someone who knows a bit about cars. I also had similar problems. It turned out that the engine control unit was faulty - that was quite expensive. I had it checked at the garage and finally had it replaced. The repair cost me 1000.0 euros and then my car ran perfectly again. For a more accurate assessment, it would be helpful if you could provide more information about your car: Does it have a special engine or other special features?

Hello there! First of all, thank you for your reply! I had my last service at 172770 km. I would say that my Antara is pretty standard, no special features or upgrades. I hope my problem won't be as expensive as yours, but checking the engine control unit sounds like a good place to start. Thanks again for your advice!

Nice of you to reply so quickly. It's been a while since your last service and it could be that your car simply needs a comprehensive check. Unfortunately, in my case it was the engine control unit, but it could be something else. It's better to have it checked by a reliable garage first. Don't get me wrong, defective ignition coils or misfiring could also be the problem, but they usually have other symptoms. At least that's what I can say from my experience with my Opel Astra. I would definitely advise you to have this checked - poor engine running cannot be good for the car in the long term and can also affect driving safety. Maybe you're lucky and it's just a minor issue that needs to be fixed. Keep us posted and good luck!

Hello, your words have really helped me. I've already made an appointment at the nearest garage. To be honest, I hope it's just a minor problem, but I have to prepare for the worst. You're absolutely right, safety first. As soon as I have any news, I'll keep you updated. Thanks again for the advice!
