Problems with the oil light and metal particles in the oil in a 2012 Citroen C4 petrol engine

Metal shavings in oil

Oil light on

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hi everyone, I have a strange problem with my little 2012 Citroen C4 petrol car. The oil light has recently come on and I have found metal particles in the oil! The warning light in the speedometer is also inconspicuous. My suspicion is that the engine oil pressure is too low. Do you have any experience with similar problems and could you give me tips on how best to fix this in the workshop? I look forward to your feedback. Thank you very much in advance,

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2010 Citroen DS3 diesel. I have a bit of experience with cars because I like to wrench on my own. I took my car to the garage and it turned out that there was wrong engine oil in my engine. They changed the oil and also the oil filter. The repair cost me 175 euros. To help you more accurately, I could use more information about your vehicle. How many kilometers has it done and when was the last time the oil was changed? Hopefully you will find a solution and your C4 will soon be running smoothly again. Greetings from Cologne,

Hello, thank you very much for your feedback. My mileage is 121990 KM and the last oil change was actually carried out a while ago. I will take your advice to heart and ask the garage about the oil and the oil filter. Maybe they used the wrong oil last time. Thanks again and best regards

Hi, I'm very pleased that you're considering my advice! At 121990 km, it might actually be time for an oil change. I remember my Citroen also had similar problems after about 150000 km. In your case, it could also be possible that the oil is already heavily contaminated or the oil pressure is too low. If there are metal particles in the oil, you should definitely act immediately, as this could indicate serious engine damage. It is quite possible that the problem can be solved simply by changing the oil and filter. But I would still advise you to have your car thoroughly checked by a professional to be on the safe side. It never hurts to play it safe, especially if you've driven as many kilometers as you have. I hope this helps you and I'll keep my fingers crossed that your C4 will soon be running smoothly again! Hello, thank you very much for your helpful tips and your optimistic outlook! I will take the vehicle straight to the garage tomorrow and hope that it is just a problem with the oil. Your comments were really enlightening, especially as I don't have much experience in this area. Many thanks again and best regards from Berlin,
