Problems with the multifunction steering wheel in a Peugeot 408 petrol engine (2016): Experiences and suggested solutions

Buttons on multifunction steering wheel without function

Hi guys, I'm having problems with my 2016 Peugeot 408 petrol engine. The buttons on the multifunction steering wheel no longer work properly. I suspect that the problem may be with the multifunction steering wheel itself. Have any of you ever experienced something like this and can give me some troubleshooting tips? I would be very interested to know how your garage solved the problem and what your experiences were. Thank you in advance!

Hi, I once had a similar problem with my 2014 Peugeot 406 diesel. I only have some experience with cars, so I'm no expert. My garage technician explained to me that the problem was with the control unit and not the multifunction steering wheel itself. They had to replace the control unit and it cost about 1000 euros. But before I can give you any more advice, I need a bit more information. What type of fuel does your car use? Does your car have any special features? Has your garage already carried out a troubleshooting run? The more information you give me, the better I can help you.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply! So my Peugeot 408 is a gasoline engine. At my last inspection at 70800 km, they didn't find anything unusual. I don't know of any special equipment features. So no troubleshooting has taken place yet. What a bummer that something like this can't just be solved quickly.

Hi, no problem! Your situation sounds really annoying. I totally understand that you want to get it resolved quickly. So if no troubleshooting has been done yet, I would recommend you do that as a first step. Maybe they will find something in the car's fault memory. If the control unit really is the problem, then unfortunately it's going to be a pretty expensive story. My tip for you would be to go to a garage first and have the troubleshooting carried out. If it is the control unit, you could also look for used parts, which might be a bit cheaper than a new one. In any case, I wish you every success and hope that the repair won't be too expensive!

Hello, thank you for your advice. That definitely makes sense. I will probably have a troubleshooting check carried out first before I take any further steps. The idea with the used parts sounds good, I'll do some research as soon as I know more. It's really annoying that something like this always has to be time-consuming and expensive. Thanks again for your help and useful tips!
