Problems with the high-voltage system and electrical malfunctions in a 2016 BMW 3 Series Hybrid

Weak battery when starting the engine

Loss of engine power

Problem with the HV-System

General electric malfunction

Hello, I have a problem with my 2016 BMW 3 Series Hybrid. Somehow it's not running as usual. I have problems with the high-voltage system, the engine power drops, the battery is weak when starting and there are also general electrical malfunctions. I think there might be a fault with the high-voltage system, but I'm not sure. Have any of you had similar problems before and any tips on troubleshooting? What did your garage do to fix the problem? Would be great if you could share your experiences with me! Thanks in advance!

Hey. I'm not an advanced car expert, but have some experience with cars and similar cases. Does your 2016 model year BMW 3 series have a hybrid powertrain? My 2014 BMW 5 series hybrid had a very similar problem. The fault was a defect in individual parts in the high-voltage system. I took it to the garage where they repaired this defect and strangely enough I didn't have to pay anything, well lucky me. It was 0 euros because it was covered by the warranty. Your situation could be similar. Hopefully you can solve the problem with your BMW as easily! I would suggest checking the battery first. Are there any specific warning lights or fault codes? More detailed information on the symptoms might be helpful to get more insight into your specific problem. Good luck solving it!

Hey thanks for your help! My BMW is a 2016 3 series hybrid and has now done 58597 km. There were no problems at the last inspection. It actually has a warning light on and reading the fault memory has revealed that there is probably a problem with the high-voltage system. I haven't checked the battery yet, but I'll do that then. Your experience reassures me a little, thanks for that! I hope that it will turn out as well for me.

I'm glad I could help you a little! If a warning light does indeed light up and the fault memory indicates a problem with the high-voltage system, it would probably be best to visit a workshop as soon as possible before further problems occur. In the case of my BMW 5 Series Hybrid, the fault was initially sporadic, but then became more frequent. After the repair, however, I never had any more problems. You said that you didn't have any problems during the last inspection, which surprises me, because my error had already occurred during the inspection. Anyway, check the battery, it could also be part of the problem that it's so weak. Hopefully it's nothing serious. Wish you the best of luck that it goes as well for you as it did for me!

Hey, I really appreciate your information and advice. It's very informative. Yes, I have noticed the warning light and I plan to visit a competent garage as soon as possible. It would give me a headache if it turns out to be a serious fault, but at least I feel a bit reassured now after hearing about your experience. I'll check the car battery too, thanks for the tip! Hopefully everything goes as smoothly as it did for you.
