Problems with the headlight cleaning system in the 2011 VW Passat petrol engine - looking for advice and experience

Headlight cleaning system without function

Hey sports fans, I have a problem with my 2011 VW Passat petrol engine. The headlight cleaning system is no longer working properly. I suspect that it could be due to a signal error in the rear window wiper water pump. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me a few tips? How did you get the problem fixed in the workshop and what were your experiences? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi there, I had a similar problem with my 2009 VW Jetta diesel (a different model but same make). I have limited experience with car problems, so I relied on trusting my local garages. They found that the fuse was faulty and I was charged 49 euros to fix it. It may help if you have a check of the whole wiper pump system to make sure that's where the problem actually lies. Have you noticed any other symptoms or received any specific fault codes? I might be able to help better with a little more information.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! Yes, I have noticed other irregularities. The fluid is also not distributed properly and the jet is too weak. So if I see this correctly, the problem could really be with the entire wiper water pump system. I'm actually planning to take my Passat to the garage soon, as it has its service at 109345 km on the odometer anyway. I hope the repair won't be too expensive... 55 euros sounds fair, but I'm afraid it could be more in my case. Do you have any tips on how I can keep the costs down? Or would I be better off having a new wiper water tank and pump fitted straight away? I'd be interested to hear your opinion. Thank you in advance!

Sure, I'll be happy to help. What you describe really sounds like a defect in the wiper fluid pump system. Do you mean that the fluid is not spraying properly or just coming out slowly? Sometimes small particles of dirt block the lines and cause problems like this. In the event that it could be more expensive than expected, you could try several things. You could first check the pump itself and maybe clean it. Sometimes this will do the job and could save you a lot of money. You could also check the fuses first and possibly replace them before replacing the entire pump. If you realize that the repair will be more expensive, you could also consider replacing the entire wiper water tank including the pump. The pump is often connected to the tank as a unit and it would be a future-proof solution to replace both. But before you make up your mind, have the workshop determine the exact fault first - there may well be a simple and inexpensive solution! Good luck and keep us up to date!

Hey, cool, thanks for all the tips! You're right, I should first find out what's really broken before I rush into expensive repairs. The idea of checking the pump and the fuses seems sensible to me. And of course, before I spend a lot of money on individual parts, it might actually be wiser to have the whole wiper water tank, including the pump, replaced. I still hope that there is a cheaper solution. Your advice is very helpful, thanks again! I'll keep you posted as soon as I know more. Bye!
