Problems with the headlight cleaning system in the 2005 Mercedes Vito Diesel - troubleshooting tips needed

Headlight cleaning system without function

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my Mercedes Vito Diesel, built in 2005. The headlight cleaning system no longer works. I suspect that it may be due to a signal error in the wiper water pump for the rear window. Has anyone ever experienced something like this and can give me some troubleshooting tips? I would be interested to know how your garage solved this. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I've had a similar problem with my 2003 Mercedes Sprinter Diesel. I wouldn't call myself a master mechanic, but I do have some experience. In my workshop, it was the cable connection of the pump or the relay that was defective. I had to pay around €165 for it. Have you ever checked the fuse and the connections? It would be interesting to know if yours has a similar problem. What symptoms does your Vito show exactly?

Hi, thanks for your reply. I haven't actually checked the fuses and connections thoroughly yet. To be honest, I have no idea where to even start. Your tip about the cable connection or the relay could well apply. My Vito has now done 153234 km and the last service was a while ago. The headlight cleaning system just doesn't do anything any more. No movement, no noise. I'll have a look tomorrow and check out your tips. Hopefully it's nothing more serious. Thanks, buddy!

Hey, no problem, we're all here to help each other. So, if your headlight cleaning system shows absolutely no reaction, then that's already an indication. It almost sounds as if there's no power at all. The first thing you could check is actually the fuses. They are usually quite easy to reach and check. Just take a look at your Vito's manual, you'll usually find information on where all the important fuses are. If the fuse is OK, check whether the pump for the headlight cleaning system is receiving power. If this is not the case, it may be that the relay is broken or a connection is interrupted somewhere. Unfortunately, you will need a little more knowledge to test this. If you're not familiar with it, I think it would be better if you had someone who is. But try the fuses first, maybe you'll get lucky and it's just that. Good luck, buddy!

Hey thanks again, I'll start tomorrow morning and check the fuses, who knows, maybe I'll get really lucky! If I don't find anything, it will probably be best to get a professional on it. You don't want to break something that still works. I'm really glad you replied. Have a good night. See you then!
