Problems with the gearshift and ABS warning light on Mercedes GLK Class Diesel built in 2007

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Whining or grinding noises

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2007 Mercedes GLK Class Diesel. The gearshift is slipping and totally spinning, the ABS warning light is on and it somehow makes strange noises, like squeaking or grinding. My thought was that it could be due to oil wear in the transfer case. Have any of you ever had a problem like this and can give me tips on what to look out for? I am particularly interested in how this was solved in the workshop and what experiences you have had. Thank you for your help!

Hi, I'm not really a car professional, but I do have some experience with cars due to similar problems with my 2009 Mercedes GLC-Class diesel, so basically a brother of your car. I had the same phenomenon: slipping gearshift, ABS light on and strange noises. I discovered that the gearbox was worn in the oil in the transfer case. As I'm not really technically minded, I took my Mercedes to the garage for repairs. They replaced the gearbox and it cost me €210.00. Let's talk more about your Mercedes, could it be that you also have problems with your gearbox? Would you tell us a bit more about your GLK? That might help us understand your problem better.

Well, mine has now done 68866km and the last inspection was only recently, so everything was probably still in order. The symptoms are very similar to yours. The gearshift slips, the ABS light comes on and the strange noises. There could be something wrong with the gearbox, I'll definitely have it checked. Thanks for your advice! But I could well imagine that this is actually the problem. I just hope that the costs won't be too high, I really don't fancy an expensive repair.

Hey, it really seems as if your GLK has similar problems to my GLC back then. Of course, it's always annoying when things like this occur, especially after the inspection. But don't go crazy, it could be something simpler. However, if it's the gearbox like mine, then I can reassure you. In my case, the cost of €210 was still reasonable and the garage got it under control pretty quickly. So definitely have it checked! If the problem still persists after that, you could perhaps have the fluids in the gearbox and the ABS sensors checked. In any case, good luck and maybe you'll be lucky and it's something smaller! Keep us posted, I'd be interested to know what it was in the end. Don't give up!

Person1: Thanks, dude! Yeah, it really does seem to be a similar problem. I think I'll take your advice and get the transmission checked and maybe the ABS sensors too if the problem persists. I will definitely keep you posted. I just hope it won't be too expensive! But your post has already reassured me. I won't give up! Thanks again!

Hey, how much has the car run? Has the transmission oil ever been changed? Often works wonders
