Problems with the gear indicator and warning light in a Mercedes Sprinter Diesel 2022: tips and experiences

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my Mercedes Sprinter Diesel, year of manufacture 2022. The gear indicator in the speedometer does not work and a warning light is illuminated. I think it might be due to the clutch pedal malfunction switch, but I'm not sure. Have you had similar problems and could you give me some tips on how to isolate the problem? I am particularly interested in what your garage has done to fix this and what your experiences are. Many thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Mercedes Sprinter Diesel is experiencing issues with a non-functional gear indicator and an illuminated warning light. The problem might be linked to a malfunctioning clutch pedal switch, but this is uncertain. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing the engine control unit, though this may not be the solution here. It is recommended to take the vehicle to a garage for a diagnostic check to accurately identify and address the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello, I had a similar problem with my Mercedes Vito Diesel, built in 2020. My knowledge of cars is rather modest, but I can tell you what helped in my situation. It turned out that the engine control unit was defective and had to be replaced. It cost me well over 1000 euros to have it done in the workshop. To help you more accurately, it would be good if you could provide some additional information about your Sprinter, such as the specific model number or any special modifications you have made. The more details you share with us, the better we can help.

Hello, thanks for the quick reply! My Sprinter now has 135234 km on it. I don't have a specific model number and haven't made any modifications. I've always had the regular maintenance done at the Mercedes garage. My last check was only recently and there were no problems. I hope this helps you.

Hey, thanks for the additional info! So, I can say that replacing the engine control unit at the same mileage helped. You said that you didn't make any modifications and did the regular maintenance at the Mercedes garage, which is very good. But be careful, there could still be many other reasons for the problem and it is not certain that the engine control unit is the solution here. So, I would advise you to take your Sprinter to a garage. The people there have the right equipment to read out the error code and can then determine the exact reason for the warning light coming on. I'm curious to see what the diagnosis will be. Please keep us up to date! Hope it won't be as expensive as in my case. Good luck, buddy!
