Problems with the engine, possible defect in the fuel pump on the Seat Altea 2017: experience and solutions wanted

Loss of engine power

Greetings, I have a problem with my 2017 Seat Altea petrol engine. I see a check engine light, the engine stalls on its own, takes longer to start when cold, loses power, runs rough, jerks when accelerating and sometimes the car won't start. I suspect that the fuel pump could be faulty. Have any of you noticed similar symptoms on your car and been able to fix this at a garage? I would be interested to know what you have had done and what your experiences have been. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Seat Leon. I'm not a mechanic, but I do have a bit of experience with cars. I also had the indicator light on and the car jerked when accelerating. I then took my car to the garage and after a few tests, they discovered that the software values for the fuel pump were incorrect. They readjusted the software values, which ultimately resulted in the car running smoothly again. It cost me 45 euros. Could you give me more information about your Altea petrol engine, such as the exact model number and what work has already been carried out? Maybe then I could help you better. Best regards!

Hi, thanks for your reply! Regarding my Altea: it's a 1.4 TSI with 125 hp, year of manufacture 2017. I haven't actually had any major repairs so far, so nothing to do with the fuel pump or anything like that. The last service was at 67256 km, when only the usual stuff was done - oil change, filter, a few minor things. The fact that it could just be a software problem reassures me a little. I'll talk to the garage about it like you did. Hopefully I'll get off as lightly as you did. I would of course pay 45 euros immediately if the problem is fixed! Best regards!

Hello again, I completely understand your anger and concerns. Given your mileage and the year of manufacture, it would be strange if the fuel pump were to break. This should actually last the life of the car, unless in theory it was faulty from the start or was damaged by poor quality fuel. In my case, as I said, it was just a software problem and the mechanics at the garage were able to fix it fairly quickly. As your Altea shows similar symptoms, I wouldn't rule out this possibility. I hope it's something simple in your case too and you don't have to spend a lot of money to solve the problem. Why don't you have the fault memory read out, maybe that will tell you what's going on. And feel free to tell the people at the garage what you suspect or what happened to me. This can certainly help them with troubleshooting. Keep us up to date and good luck! My fingers are crossed! Best regards!

Hello again and thanks for the detailed information! You've really reassured me that it could just be a software problem. Of course, I can never say exactly what the problem is without having it checked by a professional, but your experience definitely gives me hope. I will definitely ask the garage to read the fault memory and tell them about the similar problems you had with your Leon. I really hope that only the fuel pump software needs to be reset on my Altea too. I'll definitely keep you posted! Fingers crossed helps - thanks, buddy! Greetings back!
