Problems with the engine control light and warning light on the Citroen C5 Diesel 2008: Possible causes and solutions

Check engine light on

Fault stored

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2008 Citroen C5 diesel. The check engine light is on and there is a warning light in the speedometer. It also seems that a fault is stored. Could it be that the fuel filler flap release is faulty? Has anyone ever had similar problems and can provide troubleshooting tips? How did you get this solved in the workshop and what were your experiences? I am grateful for any help!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Citroen C4 Diesel, model 2006. I would say I have little experience with cars, I am not an expert, but I can fix small problems myself. In my case, the linkage was defective. I had it fixed at my garage and it cost me 210 euros. Could you tell us a bit more about your car? Things like mileage, when it was last serviced and whether you've ever had problems with the fuel filler flap could help to better understand the problem. Hopefully it will be solved quickly!

Hey, thanks for your reply! My C5 now has 31985 KM on the clock, the last time it was serviced was about a month ago. I've never had any problems with the fuel filler flap, this is the first time. Maybe it was just a one-time thing, I'll continue to observe how it behaves. At least your experience has given me a bit of hope. I guess I'll have to take it to the garage if it gets worse. Thank you!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! At first glance, your mileage seems okay for a 2008 car, and if the inspection was only a month ago, everything should be fine. But yes, I would also say keep watching is the best strategy now. Maybe it really was just a one-off thing, that can happen. I can only speak from my own experience, but in my case the garage acted quickly and professionally and the problem was solved. If it is something more serious than just a defective fuel filler flap, you are on the safe side. Ideally, the costs should be kept to a minimum. In my case, it was around 210 euros. Just listen to your gut feeling and react if the car shows further signs of problems. Your safety should always come first. You're doing the right thing, keep calm! Hopefully it's nothing serious! Good luck to you!

Hi, thanks for your support! I'll certainly keep an eye on it and if necessary, it's off to the garage. Your experience really helps in understanding the potential cost. You're probably right and it's nothing major. If I have any more information worth mentioning, I'll come back to this thread. Thanks again!
