Problems with the engine control light and high fuel consumption in the 2015 Mercedes CLK Class petrol engine - Possible fault with the air valve?

Check engine light on

Strong exhaust smell

Poor fuel economy

Hey guys, I've got a problem with my 2015 Mercedes CLK Class petrol engine. The check engine light is on, consumption is high and there's a strong smell of exhaust fumes. I suspect that the air valve has a fault, but I'm not sure. Has anyone had similar problems before and can give me some troubleshooting tips? I'm particularly interested in how the garage solved this for you and what experiences you've had. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2017 Mercedes E-Class petrol engine. I'm not a mechanic, but have a bit of experience with such issues. In my case, the cable/plug connection on the secondary air valve/secondary air pump was defective. Had to pay 95 euros at my garage to fix it. I was lucky it wasn't anything more serious! Do you know what fault codes your OBD reads? That might help to pinpoint your problem more precisely.

Hey, thanks for the tip! I don't have the exact error codes because my OBD device has just given up the ghost. But I've also thought about a faulty plug connection. My Benz has now clocked up 164103 km, and everything was fit at the last service. So it could be cable damage at that age. Thank you, I'll raise the suspicion with the garage, hopefully it won't be any more expensive than yours.

Hello again, yes, the number of kilometers could definitely be a factor. My Benz also had quite a few kilometers on the clock at that time. It's certainly possible that such a problem occurs with such a high mileage. I really hope it's the same as mine and that you get away with about 95 euros. That would of course be good for your wallet! In any case, I hope that the garage finds the problem quickly and gets it fixed. Please keep us here in the forum up to date. Good luck to you!

Hey, thanks for the encouraging words and the help, that reassures me a little. I'll definitely let you know what the garage says and what the repair costs are. I also hope it's nothing major. Now I have to replace my OBD device to get more information. I'm curious to see what it will be in the end. Thanks again and see you then!
