Hello, I know a bit about cars, but I'm absolutely no expert. I had a similar problem with my BMW X3 Diesel from 2013. The electronics were going crazy and the control unit was defective. At my garage, they said it had to be replaced. Unfortunately, that cost around 1000 euros. Do you have something similar? Can you perhaps give me more information about the car so that I can help you better? Mileage, last inspection, etc.?

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. My BMW X5 has 268455 km on the clock so far, the last inspection was recently. I mentioned the problem with the handbrake at the inspection, but unfortunately they couldn't find anything. I hope it's not the control unit, that sounds expensive... I guess there's nothing left to do but go back to the garage and have it checked more thoroughly.

No problem, that's what we're here for! Your BMW has been running for a while, but it may still be okay if you take good care of it. It really seems that you need to take it back to the workshop. They'll probably be able to pinpoint the problem better. If it really is the control unit, it could be a bit expensive... But it could also be that it's just a loose connection or something. It's best to have it checked by a professional. Incidentally, in my X3 it was also a defective control unit that was responsible for the malfunction of the electric handbrake.
