Problems with the DISA valve on 2005 BMW 7 Series: power loss and engine judder

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Stalling while idling

Jerking on acceleration

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my 2005 BMW 7 series with a gasoline engine and a mileage of 228741 km. My car is showing the following symptoms: Check Engine light is on, there is loss of engine power, the engine runs rough and jerks when accelerating and it stalls at idle. I assume that the problem could be related to the DISA valve. Have any of you had similar problems and can you share your experiences with repairs at the garage? Have you also had any unpleasant surprises when it comes to the cost? Many thanks in advance for your help!

Great, I'm relieved to hear that you've all had to deal with similar problems. I also think that a mileage of over 200,000 km is quite something. I finally went to the garage and I have to say that everything went smoothly! The mechanic replaced the DISA valve and that definitely made the difference. The car is running smoothly again, no more loss of power and everything else is running perfectly again. I had no nasty surprises in terms of cost, it cost me about 150 euros. So on the whole, everything was within reason. Thank you for your feedback and support, it really helped me! I wish you all a safe journey!

Hi, I had a pretty similar problem with my 2008 BMW 6 series, mainly the erratic engine performance and stalling at idle. After some trial and error at the garage, I had the valve replaced. The repair wasn't complicated and I had my car back pretty quickly. So don't worry, it's nothing serious and a fairly quick fix. Sometimes it's just wear and tear after a while, in your case with over 200,000 km mileage, something like this can happen. Hope this helps you.

Hey, so in your case it was actually this DISA valve that caused the trouble, wasn't it? Have you had any other problems since then or is everything in the green zone now? And if you can still remember, roughly how much did the whole thing cost you? You know, as a point of reference for me ;) Thanks in advance and have a good trip!

Hi, I also had a problem with the DISA valve. Everything is fine with me now. So don't worry, it's probably more of a wear part, which is no wonder given the mileage. On the subject of costs: I didn't quite get to the bottom of it, but there was something wrong with my charge air temperature sensor. The bill was around 180 euros, but my BMW now runs like a 1 again. Incidentally, I'm also a big Bimmer fan, drive a 3 Series E46 myself and am super satisfied. So, good luck in the workshop and don't let it get you down. Everything will be fine! Have a good trip!

Hi everyone, I was once in the same situation with my 2007 BMW 5 Series, which had a mileage of around 230,000 km. Just like you, I had this rough running and occasional engine stalling at idle. So I went through exactly the same thing. The error message was also related to the DISA valve. With such high mileage, it's really no wonder that this valve sometimes causes problems. It's a bit like an old pair of shoes that you simply have to replace. In terms of costs, I was quite lucky, it was around 130 euros. But of course it varies from garage to garage. Since the replacement was carried out, the car has been running perfectly again. So, don't panic, your Bimmer will soon be like new again! Cheer up and good luck in the workshop! Have a safe journey!
