Problems with the cruise control system on the 2005 Ford Excursion petrol engine: Looking for experiences and suggested solutions

Fault stored

Cruise control without function

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with my 2005 Ford Excursion petrol car. The cruise control is not working at all and errors are being stored. I think it might have something to do with the cruise control. Don't have a clear idea yet though. Have any of you ever experienced a similar situation and can give me tips on what it could be? I am particularly interested in how your garage has solved the problem and what your experiences have been. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I once had a very similar problem with my 2007 Ford Expedition, almost the same model. So, I have limited experience with cars (said 'amateur mechanic'), but maybe I can help anyway! It turned out that my engine control unit was faulty. It's probably similar for you. I went to my regular garage at the time and they replaced the part. It cost me a total of 1000 euros, so do the math. Nevertheless, it would be helpful if you could provide a few more details - exactly which model and year of manufacture, has your car had problems of this kind before, etc.? Only then will we be able to help you properly. Greetings!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! My last inspection was at 58605 km, so it's been a while. I can help you with the model and year. It's a Ford Excursion from 2005 and I've never had any problems of this kind before. A repair for 1000 € sounds steep at first, but what the heck, the main thing is that the thing runs properly again. I'll give my garage a call and ask about the engine control unit. Thanks again! Greetings!

Oh, we actually have almost the same model. At 58605 km, it can happen that parts break, that's quite a lot of mileage for a car like this. Look, I'd advise you to go to your garage and have the engine control unit checked. If it really is faulty, the repair will be expensive, but it's definitely worth it, because without functioning cruise control and constant faults, driving is really unpleasant and even dangerous on long journeys. I wish you the best of luck, hopefully it's nothing worse. Let us know what you end up with, will you? We're all curious here! Until then, have a good trip and keep your chin up! Greetings back!

Hi, great that you got in touch so quickly. I'll go straight to the garage tomorrow and ask about the engine control unit. Your advice sounds really good and I hope it's not too bad. I hadn't considered that it could be dangerous, especially on long journeys - good that you mentioned it. I will definitely keep you posted on how it turns out. Thanks again. See you then, greetings!
