Problems with the central locking system and the key fob on a diesel VW Scirocco 2010

Key fob issues

Locking/Unlocking issue

Hello everyone, I'm currently having a bit of trouble with my 2010 diesel VW Scirocco. I've noticed a few problems with the central locking system and there are also some problems with my key fob. I have a hunch that a functional restriction in the central locking system could be to blame. But to be honest, I'm not sure and would like your opinions on this. Have you perhaps had similar experiences? Or has anyone ever had the same problem fixed in the workshop? I'd like to know what the outcome was and how you solved it. Any tips and experience would be great. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my VW Golf 2012, so only 2 years newer than your Scirocco. My knowledge of cars is rather limited, but I can tell you what happened to me at the time. I went to my trusted garage. There they discovered that the cable connection was faulty. This caused the problems with my central locking system and my key fob. The whole thing cost me 155 euros as some cables had to be replaced. Can you perhaps give me a few more details about your vehicle? That would certainly help me to help you more accurately. For example, how old is your car exactly? Did the central locking system work properly before? I hope this helps you!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! Well, my grinder already has 138764 km on the clock and I had the last service done about 3 months ago. Maybe that could also play a role? Well, until recently the central locking system worked quite well. The key fob in particular used to work without any problems. It's just really annoying now. I'll try having the cables checked too, that was a good tip. 155 euros doesn't sound cheap, but it's getting really annoying having to lock and unlock the doors manually. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of it. Thanks again!

Hey, glad to hear that my experience was a little helpful. 138764 km sounds quite a lot, but it always depends on the general conditions and how the car has been handled. If the service was only 3 months ago, there shouldn't really be any major complications, but a check of the cable connection would certainly be useful. I totally understand that it can be frustrating always having to manually lock and unlock the doors. Unfortunately, with the amount of mileage and usage, wear and tear is not out of the question. Hopefully it's just a small problem that can be solved quickly. 155 euros may sound high, but if it solves the problem and you have the convenience of central locking again, I think it's a good investment. Remember, the price can always vary, as every garage has different hourly rates and prices for parts. Report back when you know more and how it turned out. Good luck, man!

Hey, thank you very much for your insightful answer. Your experience and advice really helped me. In particular, your explanation that the high mileage and regular use of the car can lead to such signs of wear and tear makes sense to me. 155 euros sounds expensive at first, but I can see that the investment could pay off in the long term. It would be great to have the convenience of central locking again and not have to lock and unlock the doors manually all the time. I will definitely follow your advice and have the cable connection checked at my garage. As soon as I know anything new, I'll report back here and let you know how it went. Thanks again for your help, that was really great. Maybe my experience will help others who have similar problems. So, see you then - I'll let you know if there's any news!
