Problems with the camshaft phasing in a 2013 Seat Ibiza - troubleshooting tips and experiences

Unsteady engine

Poor fuel economy

Weird engine noise

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Valve adjustment noise

Metal shavings in oil

Check engine light on

Hey guys, do you have any experience with problems with the camshaft adjustment of a 2013 Seat Ibiza gasoline engine? My car no longer pulls properly, the engine runs out of round and there are strange noises. There are also metallic shavings in the oil and fuel consumption is also increased. The indicator light is permanently illuminated. I would like to know how you have rectified these faults and what your garage has said about them. Thanks in advance!

Hey, your problem sounds very familiar to me. I experienced it with my 2011 Seat Leon petrol car. Not a professional, but experienced enough to be able to deal with such problems. I was told by the mechanic that the valve actuator power supply was faulty. Had to have my car towed to the garage and they fixed it for 405 euros. It was a bit expensive, but at least everything ran smoothly again afterwards. Can you perhaps give me more details about your car? Would love to help more.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. My Ibiza has already done 213621 km and the last service was about 6 months ago. No major work has been done since then. I will check if it is the problem with the valve actuator voltage supply. 400 euros is quite a lot, but if it helps, then it's worth it.

Hi, what I experienced with my Leon sounds very similar to your problem. With such a mileage, such problems may occur from time to time. I had the same problem with the camshaft adjustment. In any case, you need to see a mechanic! 405 euros is a bit of salt in the soup, but it solved my problem and was worth every penny. Your engine is definitely running again. Hope that helps you a little. Let's keep you up to date!

Hey, thanks for your support and the helpful tips. I will take your advice and take my car to the nearest mechanic to have the fault code read out. Hopefully it's the same problem as you had and I won't have to pay any more. I'll definitely check back here and give you guys an update. Thanks again and see you soon!

Servus, If you already have swarf in the oil, then you should definitely not continue driving. As you describe it, it could be that the mechanical part of the camshaft adjustment has disintegrated. For this reason, you could also have swarf in the oil. MFG
