Problems with the camshaft adjustment on the 2015 Peugeot 5008 petrol engine

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Valve adjustment noise

Check engine light on

Weird engine noise

Poor fuel economy

Hey guys, something is going wrong with my 2015 Peugeot 5008 petrol engine. The "Check Engine" light is on, the engine performance is decreasing, irregular engine running, jerking during acceleration, high fuel consumption and strange noises during valve adjustment and from the engine in general. I suspect that it could be due to the camshaft adjustment. Does anyone have any idea how I can narrow down the problem and what I should do? I would be particularly interested to know how you have solved such a problem in your workshop and what experiences you have had. Thank you very much!

Hi, I'm not an expert despite having moderate experience with cars, but I had a similar problem with my 2013 Peugeot 3008. As you suggest, it was indeed the valve mechanism in my case, more specifically it was worn in/defective. I took the car to my preferred garage. After an accurate diagnosis, they were able to identify the problem and replace the defective valve mechanism. The whole process cost me around €405. Now the car is running perfectly again, even a little more economical in terms of fuel consumption. What are the exact specifications of your car? Maybe I can help you then, or at least give you some advice. I hope this helps a little!

Hey, thanks for your answer! My Peugeot has a mileage of 36787 km. I had the last service almost 5 months ago. It's also a gasoline engine, so it's probably a similar problem to yours. If it really is the valve mechanism, I'm relieved that there is probably a solution. The cost doesn't sound too bad at first. I think I'll have it checked at my garage. Thanks for the tip!

Hey, no problem, always welcome! Yes, with your mileage and the last service, it really does seem to indicate a similar problem. I would really recommend just having it checked at your garage. Since my repair didn't cost the earth either, if it really is the valve mechanism, it should be within your budget. Good luck getting your Peugeot running properly again soon. Keep us posted on how it goes!
