Problems with the auxiliary battery in a 2008 Ford Galaxy - experiences and solutions

Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hi guys, have any of you ever had problems with the auxiliary battery in a 2008 Ford Galaxy with a gasoline engine? I'm experiencing some strange symptoms: When starting, the battery is often weak, the lights flicker or are dark. Do you know what could be wrong and how I can fix it? I'm particularly interested in your experiences with garages and how they solved the problem. Thanks in advance for your tips and advice!

Hello, I actually had a similar problem with my 2010 Ford S-Max. Maybe my knowledge can help you. So, I have a bit of experience with cars, but I'm not a professional. I found out that my battery was faulty. I had it checked at a garage and the mechanic was able to confirm it. It cost me 290 euros to fix the problem. They had to change the battery. Have you noticed any other symptoms? Is your engine rough when starting? Are you having problems with your radio? The more information you provide, the better advice we can give you.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! There is indeed something strange sometimes when starting the engine, as if it doesn't ignite straight away. And yes, the radio also cuts out from time to time. At my last service 139791 km ago, the car battery was tested and found to be good, maybe it's the auxiliary battery? I'm just confused by all this technology. 290 euros sounds really hefty, but if it helps to get rid of the hassle, then that's the price to pay, right? Thanks again for your advice!

Hey, no problem, that sounds like a battery problem to me too. The radio problem and the irregular engine start are typical signs of this. With so many kilometers on the clock, it can happen that the auxiliary battery gives up the ghost. The 290 euros were a lot of money, but after that my car ran like clockwork and the problems were gone. I would recommend having it checked. They were able to determine this relatively quickly at my garage. As you have similar symptoms, it may well be the battery. Good luck with that!

Hello, thank you very much for your help! That does sound like my problem, although I was hoping it wouldn't be that expensive. But if the car runs properly again afterwards, I guess it's worth the money. I'll take your advice and get my auxiliary battery checked. Hopefully my garage will be able to determine this as quickly as yours. It's reassuring to know that it's not just me. Thanks again for your support!
