Problems with the alarm system in a 2012 Toyota GT86: experiences and solutions

Alarm system malfunctions

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my 2012 Toyota GT86 (gasoline engine). The alarm system is totally spinning. I suspect it might be the anti-theft alarm system tilt sensor, but I'm not sure. Have any of you ever had the same problem? How did you get it fixed at the garage and what were your experiences? I appreciate any tips!

Hello, I may be able to help. I have had similar experiences with my 2010 Toyota Corolla (petrol). I'm not a mechanic, but I do have some experience with cars. I also had the issue with the alarm system. It turned out to be a fault in the sensors for the alarm system. I then took my car to the garage. They replaced the sensor there and everything ran smoothly again. It cost me 250 euros, but I haven't had any problems since. I would need some more information to be able to help you more precisely: Are there certain situations in which the problem occurs or is it permanent? And does your GT86 have any modifications or changes?

Hey, thanks for your answer. My GT86 only really starts when I start it after a long period of standing or when the car is on an incline. I have not made any modifications so far. It now has 178747 KM on the clock and the last service was about 3 months ago. I will probably have to take it to the garage too. Your experience gives me hope that it won't be too complicated. Did a warning signal light up when your sensor gave up the ghost?

Hi, yes, there was a warning light. I was actually totally confused at the time and initially thought it was just the battery. But when it happened, that warning light came on and it turned out that the tilt sensor was actually faulty. Your problem sounds very similar, especially the part when your GT86 is on an incline. I would say your first step should be to take the car to a garage. They can diagnose it accurately and then act accordingly depending on the cause. They might also be able to give you an estimate so you don't end up with unexpectedly high costs. It wasn't a complicated procedure for me, but it's definitely something you should have done by professional mechanics. So go ahead and get it checked, it's definitely worth it!

Hello, that makes perfect sense. Thank you for your detailed advice and your experience. That reassures me a lot. The warning light doesn't come on for me, but I will still contact the garage - better one more time than not enough. And yes, I agree with you that it's better to have it checked and, if necessary, repaired by professionals. Thanks again and I'll report back what the final outcome is. Take care!
