Problems with the air conditioning and heating in the Ford Transit 2006: Possible causes and solutions

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Air conditioning blows warm air

Hey guys, I'm having problems with my Ford Transit (built in 2006, gasoline engine). The air conditioning is only blowing warm air and there are general problems with the cooling/heating. I think it might be to do with a faulty signal from the ambient temperature sensor, but I'm not sure. Have any of you had similar problems and can maybe give me some troubleshooting tips? How have you solved the problem in your workshop and what experiences have you had? I am grateful for any help!

Hey, I can totally sympathize. I had similar problems with my 2008 Ford Transit Connect, not quite the same model, but similar issues. I describe myself as someone with reasonably sound car knowledge. I took the car to my garage and it turned out that the "cable or plug connection from the sensor" was defective. That cost me 95 euros. It sounds like you may have the same problem. Can you perhaps tell me a bit more about your car? Mileage, condition, when was the last service done? This information could help to make a better diagnosis.

Hey, thanks for the tip! My Transit has about 71778 km on it and the last inspection was last year. The condition of the car is actually pretty good despite its age, but you can tell it's not a virgin anymore. I will ask my garage if they can check this "cable or connector from sensor" problem. Thanks again for the advice, really great!

Hey, I'm glad if I could help! Our Transits have already covered quite a few kilometers, haven't they? With your mileage and the age of the car, it could well be that the sensor has simply given up the ghost after all these years. When I went to the garage at the time, they also checked the air conditioning compressor and found that it was badly worn. This also contributed to the poor cooling performance and I replaced it at the same time. It wasn't that cheap, but since then the air conditioning has been blowing like a young god again. So my tip: Ask the garage if they can also check the compressor. It's better to tackle everything at once than to have to go back to the workshop in a few weeks. I hope this helps you and your Transit will soon be fine again. Let us know how it turns out!

Hey, that's great advice, thank you! I will definitely ask about the compressor and hope this might solve my problem. Your experience sounds very helpful and I guess I might have the exact same problem. I would definitely get back to you when I know what's going on. Your help has really been invaluable and I thank you again. Let's cross our fingers that there aren't too many more bends and that my transit is back in tip top shape soon!
