Problems with the air conditioning and heating in the 2004 Peugeot 407 petrol engine

Hi guys, I'm having problems with my 2004 Peugeot 407 petrol. The air conditioning just blows out warm air, the heating/cooling doesn't do what it should and the A/C system won't even kick in. My suspicion is that the temperature sensor of the heat exchanger is faulty. Have any of you ever had similar problems and can give me tips or share your experiences? I would like to know how this was solved in the workshop. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

The 2004 Peugeot 407 is experiencing issues with the air conditioning system, which only blows warm air and fails to activate properly. The suspected cause is a faulty temperature sensor in the heat exchanger. A similar issue in a Peugeot 406 was resolved by repairing a faulty wire/connector related to the temperature sensor. It is advised to minimize air conditioning use and attempt a system reset by turning it off and on, but professional repair is likely necessary.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2002 Peugeot 406, I only have some experience with cars so I went to my garage. The diagnosis was, as you suspect, the problem with the temperature sensor - the wire/connector was faulty. I paid 155 euros for the repair and everything worked perfectly again afterwards. Can you perhaps tell us a bit more about your car, e.g. model, mileage or other symptoms? That would certainly help to give you more specific information.

Thanks for your quick reply. My 407, has been running for 58402 km, quite a lot for such a classic car, isn't it? It was last checked at the service, although it had no obvious problems. However, now she's showing this annoying air conditioning problem. From your description, it seems to me that the temperature sensor could really be the problem. I guess I'll have to get an appointment at the garage. Would you have any advice on what I could do in the meantime until I get an appointment?

Moin, surprisingly your Peugeot 407 isn't that old, it sounds more like it's just been well used! In the meantime, I would advise you to avoid unnecessary use of the air conditioning to avoid putting unnecessary strain on the engine. You could also try switching it off completely and switching it on again. Sometimes this helps if the system has "hung up". Unfortunately, from my experience, in most cases a problem like this requires professional intervention. In the case of my 406, they read out the fault memory and checked the A/C compressor in addition to the repair. It certainly helps to gather as much information as possible before the workshop visit, this can be helpful when troubleshooting. All the best!

Hi, thanks for your helpful tips. Yes, the little one has been really well used! I'll try to follow your advice and use the air conditioning as little as possible until the workshop appointment. I will also try switching it off and restarting it. Hopefully that will help a little. It's a shame that it will probably need a professional repair, but what the heck, safety first. I'll also take your tip to heart and gather as much information as possible. That will certainly help when the workshop diagnoses the problem. Thanks again, and all the best for you too!
