Problems with the air conditioning and heating in Ford Expedition 2012 - looking for solutions and experiences

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Air conditioning blows warm air

Hey guys, I have problems with my Ford Expedition (gasoline engine, year 2012). The air conditioning only blows warm air and the heating/cooling doesn't work as it should. I suspect that the solar sensor inside the vehicle is going haywire. Has anyone had similar problems and could give me some tips on how to isolate the problem? I am particularly interested in what your garage has done to fix the problem and what your experience has been. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Ford Explorer (built in 2010). I'm not a car expert, but I've had a few experiences. At my garage, it turned out that the wiring harness was defective. The repair cost me 155 euros. However, there could also be other problems that lead to similar symptoms. Could you perhaps provide some more information about your vehicle, such as mileage or maintenance history? This could help to narrow down the problem.

Hi, thanks for the tip. My cross has already counted up to 144574 km and the last service wasn't that long ago either. I'll definitely check the wiring harness. Otherwise the car is running great.

Hi, glad to be able to help you. With that kind of mileage, it could actually be signs of wear. Just like my Explorer, your Expedition is probably still running great despite the problems. Keep your fingers crossed that it's just the wiring harness and not a big deal. The solar sensor could also be the problem. Although it's rare, I once had a case where the solar sensor in my car was faulty and sent incorrect values to the control unit, resulting in inadequate cooling/heating. If the problem persists after replacing the wiring harness, I could recommend checking the solar sensor. This is not an expensive repair. On my Ford Explorer it cost about 80 euros to replace the sensor. But of course the best thing is to get the opinion of a specialist garage first to be sure. Good luck! Let me know if it works, will you?

Hello, thank you very much for your help, it really doesn't seem that expensive. That was very helpful. I'll have the wiring harness checked first and if that doesn't solve the problem, I'll have a look at the solar sensor. Thanks again for your tips and experience. I'm reassured that it doesn't seem to be anything major. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. See you then!
