Problems with starting and immobilizer in a Renault Captur Hybrid 2020 - tips and experience wanted

Car won't start

Vehicle starts briefly and goes out again

Hey guys, I have a problem with my Renault Captur, built in 2020, and it's a hybrid. The car doesn't really want to start and after starting it goes off again immediately. I have a hunch that maybe the immobilizer is spinning. Have any of you ever experienced the same thing or have any idea what to do? How did you manage to sort it out at the garage and how did it go for you? I would really appreciate a few tips!

Hi, I had a similar issue with my 2018 Renault Clio if I'm not mistaken. It looks like we both had similar challenges. I'm not a car expert, but I do have a bit of experience with cars. On my Clio, it was the immobilizer control unit/antenna that was faulty/damaged. I had it fixed at a garage and it cost about 365 euros, which was a bit of a pain in the wallet! But to help you better, I could do with a few more details about your vehicle. For example, how often does it happen? Are there any other symptoms? I'm happy to help if I can!

Hi, thanks for your answer! It happens quite often, almost every time I start the car. Apart from the engine stalling straight away, I don't really notice any other symptoms. It has now run 120061 km, the last service was about 3 months ago. I hope this information helps you. What was your experience with the garage, did you have an appointment or were you able to just pop in? I would really appreciate your help!

Great that you replied so quickly! Here's what happened to me: After I noticed the problem, I called the garage immediately and made an appointment. But I wasn't allowed to come in straight away because they were really fully booked. That really sounds like the same problem I had. Did the mechanics notice or mention anything special during your last service? That was the case with me, they said that the immobilizer could soon cause problems. Maybe it's the same for you? Anyway, if I were you, I'd go to the garage and have it checked. Hopefully it's nothing too expensive, but safety first, right? I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything turns out well! Keep calm and let me know if anything new comes up. I'm happy to help if I can!

Hi, I'm glad you replied in such detail! It wasn't mentioned at the last service, but I suspect that it really has something to do with the immobilizer. I'll go to the garage tomorrow and see if I can get the problem fixed. Your help was really valuable and gave me a lot of courage! As soon as I have any news, I will keep you informed. Thanks again, you really know your stuff!
