Problems with starting and flickering lights in Opel Omega 2001 - experience and solutions wanted

Weak battery when starting the engine

Dim or flickering lights

Hey guys, my Opel Omega (built in 2001) with a gasoline engine has been having trouble starting lately and the lights flicker or are dim. I suspect an overvoltage in the vehicle as the cause. Has anyone had similar experiences and been able to solve the problem in the workshop? Would love to hear your experiences and tips for solving the problem. Thank you!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Opel Vectra (built in 1999). I have little experience with cars, so I took it to the garage. It turned out that the battery was faulty. The guys at the garage replaced it and everything is working great again. It cost me 290.0 euros. Can you please describe the exact symptoms and possibly whether they always occur or only sporadically? This could help to narrow down the problem. Hope this helps you.

Hey, thanks for the tip! It seems to be the same with me, the lights always go dim, especially when I start the engine. Everything is ok when driving, but it's a bit weird. The problems are more sporadic and the total mileage is at 181414 km. I took it in for a service the other day and they said it could be the battery. I think I'm really going to replace it like you said. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, you're welcome! It was exactly the same with my Vectra. If the lights and other electronic parts are weak or flickering, especially when starting the car, then it's probably the battery. Sporadic problems are typical of a dying battery, and the high mileage on your speedometer is another indicator. I would also advise you to have the battery replaced. It may not be the cheapest solution, but your car will certainly run perfectly again afterwards. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Thanks for your advice and support! Yes, you're right, I should probably think about it and have the battery replaced, although it's not cheap. But it would definitely make the car more reliable. Okay, I'll definitely let you know as soon as I find a solution. Thanks again!
