Dim or flickering lights

Hello, I have some problems with my Mini Clubman (built in 2018, petrol engine). It won't start, fuel consumption is high and a warning light comes on in the speedometer. The lights also flicker sometimes. I think it could be the engine start-stop system. Have you had similar experiences and can you give me tips on what could be the cause? I am particularly interested in how you were able to solve the problems in the workshop. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello, I have had similar experiences with my Mini Countryman (built in 2016, petrol engine). I would describe myself as a hobby mechanic with some experience. I also had problems with the lights and a warning light on my car. In the workshop, it turned out that a fuse was defective. That cost me 60 euros. You should share more information about your vehicle to help more accurately. When exactly do the lights flicker? Is it just one light flickering or several? What exactly does the warning light indicate? Hope this helps a little!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! The lights have indeed only recently started flickering, but then in several places - both interior and exterior lights. The warning light is the one from the engine and it comes on when I start the Mini. But then it can no longer be started... The last time it was serviced was at 21900 km. I think I should really go to the garage and have the fuses checked. Thanks for the tip!

Hey, you're welcome! I'm glad if I can help. That sounds really strange about the lighting. In my case it was just the exterior lighting and then a new fuse helped. But if it also flickers in the interior, it could also be a major electrical fault. The workshop would really be the best place to go! You could be right about the warning light, it could be due to the start-stop system. But I would also play it safe here and have it checked. Is it the case that the engine won't start at all? In my Mini, the start was sometimes a little delayed, but it never failed completely. If you're still under warranty, you should definitely take the opportunity to make an appointment right away. Better safe than sorry, right? Let us know what comes out - I'm curious!

Hi, thanks again for your tips! Yes, the engine absolutely won't start - so I will definitely make a workshop appointment and have the whole thing checked. I'm still under warranty, so that's a good point. Hope it's nothing too expensive.... I'll get back to you as soon as I have any news. Thanks again for your help!
