Problems with Skoda Rapid 2016: loss of power, increased consumption and strange engine noises

Poor fuel economy

Weird engine noise

Unsteady engine

Valve adjustment noise

Metal shavings in oil

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Good afternoon, everyone! I'm having problems with my 2016 Skoda Rapid with gasoline engine. Loses power, runs rough, has jerks when accelerating, uses a lot of fuel, makes noise when adjusting valves and has strange engine noises. I have discovered metal shavings in the oil. Could this be a problem with the faulty cam timing? Has anyone had similar problems and can give me any tips? How was it fixed at the garage? Thanks in advance for your experience and advice.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2018 Skoda Superb. I'm not a mechanic, but it looks like you might have the same problem I had: low oil pressure at the camshaft solenoid valves. Eventually had to go to the garage and had to fork out 1435 euros. Terrible, isn't it? Of course, that was just my case. I think it would be really helpful if you could provide a little more information about your car. Things like mileage, whether you've ever changed the oil, when the last service was, could be useful to help you a bit more accurately. Hope this helps you a little!

Hey, thanks for your reply! My little darling has already done 78213 km. The last time I changed the oil was about six months ago and the last inspection was 8 months ago. I assume something serious must have happened. To be honest, your experience worries me, 1435 euros ... That sounds really bad! I hope it won't be that expensive for me. Any other suggestions or tips?

Hi, your problem actually sounds a lot like my own experience with my 2017 VW Passat. Mine was exactly the same: loss of engine power, rough engine running and metal shavings in the oil. Just like you, the question came up as to whether the fault could be with the camshaft phasing. I can tell you that my workshop confirmed the suspicion at the time. In my case, parts of the camshaft adjustment were worn out. The workshop then replaced the affected parts of the camshaft adjustment. That solved my problem at the time, but it wasn't exactly cheap. It also cost me around 1600 euros. However, don't drive yourself crazy unnecessarily. Wait and see what your workshop visit reveals. They'll be able to judge better. Just be prepared for the fact that it could be expensive. I hope this helps you a little. Anyway, keep your fingers crossed that it won't be that expensive for you. Keep your head up and keep going, you'll be fine!

Hey, thanks for your tips and stories, even if it's not good news. I have now made an appointment with the garage. I hope they can fix it. Thanks again and I'll keep you posted on what comes out of the investigation.
