Engine shuts off by itself

Hi everyone, I have a question about my 2019 Skoda Octavia with a petrol engine. My car has been acting up recently. Black smoke when accelerating, the check engine light is constantly on, the engine shuts off by itself, feels sluggish and runs quite rough. When I press the accelerator pedal, it jerks strangely, fuel consumption has gone through the roof, the exhaust smells nasty and sometimes it dies at idle. Do you also think it could be the fuel pump? Has anyone ever had something like this fixed at their garage and can give me a tip? What was your experience? I'm grateful for any feedback!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2017 Skoda Superb. I'm someone with a bit of experience with cars and have also done things myself, but for things like this I go straight to the garage. The mechanic diagnosed me with a defective fuel pump. The repair cost 640 euros. It wasn't cheap, but the bike has been running like clockwork ever since. Perhaps a little more information about your car would be helpful? Mileage, last inspection and whether you've had any faults read out? With a little more detail, I might be able to help you more specifically.

Hey, thanks for your reply! Yes, I also suspected that it could be the fuel pump. My last inspection was at a mileage of 50200, so not too long ago. I haven't had the fault readout done yet, but I should probably do that next. Do you have any idea how much it will cost? Thanks in advance!

Hey, no problem, happy to help! As far as fault reading is concerned, it costs between 30 and 80 euros, depending on the garage. But in your case, it's definitely a good idea because it can confirm whether the problem is really coming from the fuel pump or whether something else is wrong. The price for replacing the pump can also vary greatly depending on where you have it done. When I had it repaired, the price of 640 euros also included a few spare parts. I hope this helps you a little. Let me know what you come up with!

Great, thanks for the info! So next I'll find a garage and have the fault readout done. And depending on what comes out of it, I'll then decide about the fuel pump. Fortunately, the prices you quoted don't sound too utopian. I'll keep you up to date! Thanks again for your help!
