Problems with Skoda Octavia 2003: smoke, engine warning light and starting difficulties

Poor fuel economy

Longer cold start time

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Car won't start

Unsteady engine

Check engine light on

Engine shuts off by itself

Hi everyone, I have a question. I'm having a lot of trouble with my 2003 Skoda Octavia petrol engine. It's showing some problems such as black smoke when accelerating, check engine light, suddenly switches off, prolonged cold starts, engine running rough, poor fuel economy and the car won't even start. Had the idea that maybe the cold start injector could be to blame. Do you have any experience with this? How did you get this solved in the workshop? I would appreciate any tips!

Hi, I had similar problems with my 2001 Skoda Superb. I am not a professional in car mechanics, but have some experience with a few problems with my car. When the problem occurred, I went to my regular garage. They then discovered that the wiring or plug in my car was faulty. The repair cost me a total of 95 euros. Unfortunately, I can't say any more without more detailed information about your vehicle. Are there any other details you could share about the car or the problem? It might help to make a more accurate diagnosis.

Hey, thanks for your answer. Well, my car has 67032 km on the clock and the last inspection was a year ago. I've heard that it might also be possible to read out a software error? Or maybe it all just sounds like classic wear and tear? I'll probably just drop by my garage. Maybe they'll know more. Thanks anyway.

Hey, no problem, it's always an annoying thing when the car goes haywire. Reading out software errors is a great idea and I've already done it on my old car. Mine had about the same mileage at the time and the cold start behavior and rough engine also indicated a possible sign of wear. The fault readout then confirmed that there were problems with the injection valve. A good workshop can definitely help with this. Incidentally, in most cars, a defective cold-start injection valve also results in higher fuel consumption. The cost of a repair - depending on the extent - can therefore quickly pay for itself! Let's hear what comes out. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the tip and the good wishes! I will now take my Octavia to the garage and have the software errors read out. Maybe the injection valve is actually defective. It would be great if it could be solved so quickly and the repair costs remain within reasonable limits. I will report on what comes out of it. Thanks again and see you then!
