Problems with Renault Wind Diesel 2010: Check engine light, loss of power and suspected EGR valve malfunction

Engine shuts off by itself

Unsteady engine

Strong exhaust smell

Hey guys, I'm having some trouble with my 2010 Renault Wind Diesel. The check engine light is on and the engine shuts off by itself. There is also a loss of engine power, rough running, a strong exhaust smell and shaking at idle. I suspect a functional fault in the EGR valve. Has anyone had similar experiences and knows how a workshop could rectify this problem? What experience have you had with this type of problem? Any advice would help!

Hi. I remember a similar problem with my Renault Twingo, 2008 model. I'm not an expert in the field, but I have a bit of experience with cars. The symptoms you describe sound very much like my case. At my garage, it turned out that the EGR valve was defective and stuck. I had to have the valve replaced, which cost me around 355 euros. Before I go into any more detail, I can better assess the suspected cause if I know more about your car. What is the general condition? Have any repairs been carried out recently? The more information, the better.

Thank you very much for the quick reply and helpful information! Well, I did the last inspection at 61554 km and no further repairs have been done since then. My wind is still blowing pretty good except for these current issues. From your experience, it really seems that the EGR valve is the culprit. The cost is obviously annoying, but if it helps, then it's worth it. Is replacing the valve something you could possibly do yourself or is it better to take it straight to the garage?

Hey, you're welcome! Well, based on the condition of your car, it really seems like the EGR valve could be the problem. Your Renault Wind could be showing very similar signs to my Twingo if the EGR is leaking. As to your question about whether you can replace the valve yourself or not, it really depends on your technical understanding. You'll need some specialist tools and a good understanding of what you're doing as it can be quite tricky. If you're unsure, I would definitely recommend taking the car to a garage. We wouldn't want your wind to suffer even more from improper handling, would we? I hope this helps you a bit and it would be great if you could keep us posted on how it develops. Good luck!

Hey, that's really great of you, thank you very much! I have to admit that, as far as I know, I don't have the necessary equipment or in-depth technical understanding to change the valve myself. So I'm going to follow your advice and take the car to the garage before it gets any worse. You're right, the wind has been through enough already. I will definitely give an update once the problem is fixed. Thanks again for your help. See you then!
