Problems with Renault Megane Diesel 2014: Black smoke, power loss and failed DPF regeneration

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loud hissing on acceleration

DPF regeneration failure

Check engine light on

Strong exhaust smell

Loss of engine power

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2014 Renault Megane Diesel and am looking for some helpful advice from you. The car smokes black from the exhaust when accelerating, the engine light is on and it has lost power. There is also a loud hiss when accelerating, a strong exhaust smell and it keeps failing DPF regeneration. I have a suspicion that the exhaust gas recirculation is not working properly. Have you ever experienced anything like this? What did the workshop do to solve the problem? I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Hi, so I had a similar problem with my 2012 Renault Clio Diesel, I would describe myself as a car enthusiast with some experience but I'm not a mechanic or anything. I responded by taking it to my favorite garage. They repaired the wiring on the electric changeover valve which was damaged. That cost 155 euros. Fixed my problem and the car has run much better since. Could you possibly share the exact mileage and if you have had any other repairs or maintenance done to your car? Maybe that could help to get a better impression. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply and the tip! My Megane has 10666 kilometers on the clock so far, the last service was recently, but the problem still persists. I'll keep your advice in mind and have the electric changeover valve checked. Thanks again!

No problem, glad I could help! With your relatively low mileage, I wouldn't expect it to be a major problem. It really could be the exhaust gas recirculation, that sounds like a possibility. The electric changeover valve thing was just my experience, of course it could be different for you. But be sure to have it checked at the workshop, as they will certainly be able to diagnose the exact problem. If none of this helps, it could possibly be due to the DPF regeneration. In this case, you might have to consider a professional DPF cleaning, which can be a bit more expensive. In any case, I hope your problem is solved soon. Keep us up to date!

Hello, you've really helped! Yes, you're right, with the low mileage the problem shouldn't be too big. I'll follow all your tips and hope it's just something small. The DPF cleaning sounds like a good idea in case the other solutions don't work. I'll get back to you as soon as I have any news. Thanks again for your time and advice!

Hello, unfortunately it is not yet possible to connect the battery to your Renault with the Carly app. This function is currently only available for BMW and VAG (Audi, VW, Seat and Skoda).
