Problems with Renault Fluence 2009: Engine indicator light, loss of power and jerking when accelerating

Jerking on acceleration

Shaking while idling

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Stalling while idling

Check engine light on

Hello everyone, my 2009 Renault Fluence with a gasoline engine has recently been experiencing some strange problems. The check engine light is on, the engine power is reduced and it runs unevenly. It jerks when accelerating and sometimes it simply stops when idling. It also vibrates unusually strongly when I am at idle speed. I suspect that something is wrong with the tank ventilation system. Could this be the cause? Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me some troubleshooting tips? I would be particularly interested to know how the problem was rectified in your workshop and what experience you have had with it. Many thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2007 Renault Megane, so I understand all too well what you're going through. I'm not a mechanic, but I've worked with cars for a few years, so I do have a bit of experience. On my car, the hoses were clogged. The garage only found this out after some searching. They cleaned the clogged hoses, which cost me 175 euros. Since then, the car has been running smoothly again. Could you possibly give more details about your car, such as the mileage or when the fault first occurred? This could help to better pinpoint your problem. Good luck with your Fluence, hopefully the problem will be fixed quickly!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. My Renault currently has 90063 km on the clock. The problem first appeared about a week ago, shortly after I filled up the tank. The last service was about six months ago and there were no abnormalities. The idea with the clogged hoses sounds plausible, I will take this up with my garage. Thanks again for your input, hopefully it can be fixed as easily as you did!

Hey, no problem, I'm happy to help where I can! Given the mileage and age of your car, I definitely wouldn't rule out the possibility that the hoses could be clogged. And given that the problems occurred right after refueling, the fuel evacuation system could actually be the culprit. In my experience, such problems are usually not too difficult to fix, at least if they are just clogged hoses. The costs should also be limited, unless something needs to be replaced. In any case, talk to the garage about it, they should be able to check it and clean it if necessary. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it goes as well for you as it did for me! Feel free to give us an update if you have any news. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for your advice and words of encouragement. I will follow your advice and address the problem at my next workshop appointment. Hopefully it really is just clogged hoses and not a more complicated problem. I'll definitely get back to you with an update as soon as I know more so others can benefit from my experience. Thanks again and have a great day!
