Problems with Renault Clio Hybrid 2022: Suspected fault with fuel pressure regulator

Engine shuts off by itself

Strong exhaust smell

Loss of engine power

Poor fuel economy

Unsteady engine

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Stalling while idling

Hi guys, I'm having trouble with my Renault Clio Hybrid built in 2022. Quite strange symptoms are appearing, such as black smoke when accelerating, the check engine light is on, the engine switches off by itself and has a loss of power, plus uneven engine performance with jerking when accelerating. Plus poor fuel consumption and a strong exhaust smell. Even when idling, the car just stops from time to time. I suspect that the fault is in the fuel pressure regulator, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone had similar problems and can tell me a bit about their experiences in the workshop and how this was resolved? I would really appreciate your tips!

Hi, I can relate to your situation as I had a similar problem with my Renault Megane 2020 some time ago. With my knowledge (I would say I have some experience), it turned out that the fault entry occurred after changing the fuel filter. At my garage they fixed the problem for 45 euros. But to help you more accurately, could you perhaps provide more information about your car? For example, when exactly the symptoms occur and what maintenance work you have already carried out? Then I could help you more precisely.

Hey, thanks for your reply. It's good to hear that your problem has been solved. My symptoms usually occur when I've been driving long distances and the car has just warmed up. Sometimes it even happens when I get off the highway and come to a stop at traffic lights. My Clio has only had the usual service so far, the last one at 121985 km, and there have been no signs of major problems. Maybe I should also have the fuel filter changed if that solved the problem for you. I'm assuming the Clio has a similar fuel filter to your Megane, right?

Hi again, thanks for the information and clarification. Sure, it sounds to me like the fuel pressure regulator could be the culprit, especially as the symptoms are typical, especially when you say they occur mainly on long journeys and highway driving. In my Megane, changing the fuel filter was ultimately the solution (I had it done at a normal garage and have to say it was totally worth the money, it's been running like a champ ever since) and the juddering and loss of power have since disappeared. Regarding your question about whether the Clio has a similar fuel filter to the Megane, I would guess that they are certainly similar if not identical, at least they should serve the same purpose. But as mentioned, I'm not a professional. So you could go to the dealer and have it checked, or just try changing the fuel filter (doesn't cost the earth) and see if it gets better. Another possible cause could be a defective injection system - this could also be the reason for the jerking and loss of power. Hope this helps you and your Clio will soon be back in top form! Good luck!

Hello again, thank you for your detailed reply and the kind words. I think I'll follow your advice and have the fuel filter changed. It seems that it doesn't cost that much and if it is then solved, it would definitely be worth it. And I'll definitely keep the defective injection system in mind in case the problem persists. You've really helped me a lot! I'll go to the garage tomorrow and report back on how it went. Thanks again!

My 2020 Clio hybrid, with only 70,000 on the odometer, without forewarning, stopped acutely when overtaking on the highway. Apparently, a helix of the high speed broke off (in normal use), interrupting the transmission to the gasoline engine. The car has been well maintained and is now at the dealer. So this is a non-conformity With goodwill the repair will cost 6000 euros. I am very strident about this and wonder if replacing the part will indeed fix the problem. Does anyone here have experience?

Hello, Has the vehicle been read out and have you been given a fault code? Did you get an estimate of which part of the vehicle needs to be replaced? We would be pleased to receive an answer ;)
