This is exactly the problem I'm currently thinking about! Thanks for your quick reply and the tip about the control unit. It already has quite a few kilometers on it, namely 127400 km. The battery is still the first one, so it's also 8 years old. I hadn't even thought about the control unit because there were no problems at the last service - which wasn't that long ago. But who knows, sometimes it can happen that these electrical parts simply give up the ghost. Thanks again for your advice, I'll take it up with the garage.

You're welcome, I'm glad if I could help! With so many kilometers and such an old battery, it could actually be the control unit. I could well imagine that this is the cause. It may not have been checked during the last service. I would recommend asking the garage about this. Another tip: if you have the battery replaced, this could "reset" the whole system first. Maybe that will solve the problem. Or if it's not the battery, then it might be the control unit. Have that checked! I hope that helps you. Good luck with the car!

Hi guys, thanks for these helpful tips! To be honest, I hadn't thought about the old battery and that it could affect the entire system in this way. I will definitely have the control unit checked at the next workshop visit and also ask about changing the battery. I'll keep you updated as soon as I have any new information. Thanks again for your help. See you soon!

Hello. I would first use a scanner to read out any error codes. Another option is to check the actual fuse, wiring and the rear window element. You could also check if the control switch is working or not and if unresolved, I would seek help from a professional to run a full diagnostic report. Wishing you the best!
As has already been said, I would also check the fuse first if both heaters are not working. But of course it could also be the control unit if all the cable connections are OK. However, before replacing the expensive control unit, I would first rule out all other possible defects.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my VW Passat Diesel, year 2015, also a VW model. I don't have much experience with cars, but I know a bit. The problem at the time was the control unit, it was defective. My garage then repaired it for 475 euros. Never had it again after that. But to be able to help you better, I'd need a bit more information about your car. How many kilometers has it done? How old is the battery? Have you ever had the control unit checked?
