Problems with Peugeot Rifter 2022: Engine indicator light, loss of power and suspected fault in the tank ventilation system

Unsteady engine

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with my Peugeot Rifter (petrol engine, year of manufacture 2022). The check engine light is on, the engine is losing power and running rough, jerking when accelerating, stalling at idle, shuddering when stationary. I suspect that the problem could be due to a fault in the tank ventilation system or DMTL valve. Do any of you have experience with such a fault? What did your garage do to rectify the fault and what was your experience with it? I am grateful for any tips!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Peugeot Partner (built in 2021). I only have a bit of experience with cars, but I can tell you my experience. I had exactly the same problem, so I went straight to the garage. They then checked my car and it turned out that the engine control unit was faulty. The repair cost me 1000 euros and it was definitely a very rare case. Have you had the fault memory read out? Maybe I can help you better if I know which error codes are displayed.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I haven't had the fault memory read out yet, but it's definitely on my to-do list. Mine now has 105144 KM on the clock and last had a service a month ago. Everything was still running smoothly then. A defective engine control unit sounds tough, but I hope it won't be that expensive for me. I'll go to the garage tomorrow and see what they say. I'll keep you up to date!

Hey, no problem! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's not the engine control unit. That's really expensive fun. But don't forget, the sooner you get it checked, the better. You don't want the engine to break down completely. Be sure to write and tell us what the workshop finds out. I'm curious now too. And remember, it could actually be the tank ventilation system or DMTL valve. On my previous car, also a Peugeot, I had a fault in the tank ventilation system and the behavior was very similar. Keep at it and get it checked!

I will, thanks for your support! I realize that it's important to get it checked quickly. There's no way around it. And your experience with the tank venting system gives me hope that it might be something more cost effective. I'll keep you posted and let you know what the garage says. Thanks again and have a nice day!

That shouldn't have cost you anything, they're under warranty for 5 years or 100k kms

That sounds quite expensive. Before proceeding with such a costly repair, I would recommend getting a second opinion from another garage. It's always good to compare prices and diagnoses. Also, make sure to check if any of these parts are still under warranty. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?
