Problems with Peugeot 307 Diesel (2008): Light failure, increased consumption and starting difficulties

DPF regeneration failure

Longer cold start time

Check engine light on

Pre-glow light won't turn off

Car won't start

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Poor fuel economy

Hey guys, I'm having a few problems with my Peugeot 307 Diesel (built in 2008). The forward light just won't go out, I see black smoke when accelerating, and the check engine light is on. It also takes longer to start when it's cold, sometimes it won't start at all and fuel consumption has increased. Even the DPF regeneration has failed. I suspect that a glow plug may be faulty, but I'm not sure. Do any of you have experience with similar problems? How did you solve it and what did you do in the workshop? Many thanks for your help!

Hi, I'm not a car mechanic or anything, but I've managed to repair a washing machine myself before, so I'm a bit of a handyman. I recently had exactly the same problem with my Peugeot 308 Diesel (built in 2010). Diesel smoke, difficult starting, increased consumption, light always on and so on. From my experience, it was really a faulty glow plug due to wear. I took my car to the garage and after an inspection it was confirmed that one of the glow plugs was defective. This then had to be replaced. In the end, the whole thing cost me around 560 euros. To help you better, I would need more details about your car. How many kilometers does it have on it and when was the last time the glow plugs were replaced? It could well be that your Peugeot just needs a few new glow plugs. Hopefully I've been able to help you a little! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you for your answer! My Peugeot has a mileage of 31856 KM and to the best of my recollection I have never had a glow plug changed, so I haven't had any problems with it so far. I think I will take my car to the garage and have the glow plugs checked. If the cost is around 560 euros, that's something I'll consider. Hopefully that will fix the problem. Thanks again for the info!

No problem, always happy to help! Given the mileage of your Peugeot, it could really be that the glow plugs are just old and need replacing. In my case, the glow plugs were already relatively old and had simply given up the ghost. In my case, the total price was 560 euros, although I have to say that I also replaced the fuel filter in addition to the glow plugs. In any case, have the workshop check whether any other parts need to be replaced. Normally, replacing a single glow plug doesn't cost that much. I hope that replacing the glow plugs will also solve your problems. Keep me up to date! Good luck and have a safe journey!

I will take your advice and let the garage know of any additional parts that need replacing. It was really helpful to hear your experiences and I definitely feel better now. I also hope that replacing the glow plugs will solve the problem. Will definitely keep you posted! Thanks again and safe travels on your roads!
