Problems with Peugeot 206 Diesel: Check engine light, difficult cold start and loss of power

Check engine light on

Longer cold start time

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Hey guys, I'm having problems with my Peugeot 206 Diesel, year 2001. Recently it's been showing some pretty strange symptoms - the check engine light is on, the engine stalls by itself, takes longer to start from cold, has a loss of power, runs rough, jerks when accelerating and sometimes it won't start at all. I think this could be due to the fuel pump. Have any of you had similar experiences or do you know any troubleshooting tips? I would also be interested to know how your garage has fixed this and what your experiences have been. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2003 Peugeot 207, I have some experience with cars. So, I took it to my garage and they solved it pretty quickly. It turned out that the wrong software values for the fuel pump were the problem. I had to pay 45 euros to fix the fault. But now it's running smoothly again. Maybe you are right with your assumption. Can you give us more details about your car? We might be able to help you better that way. Maybe it's something similar with your car.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! My Peugeot already has 181123 KM on the clock. The last service was a long time ago, so maybe that's having an effect now. It would be great if I could solve the problem for 45 euros. I'll have a look in the garage and check the software values for the pump. Good idea! Thanks for the tip!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! With the mileage, other things such as wear and tear or age could of course also play a role. But it's good that you're looking, maybe you're lucky and it really is just the software values for the fuel pump. If that's the case, you'll have solved the problem quickly and relatively cheaply. Otherwise, I would definitely have a mechanic take a look, to avoid causing even more damage in the end. Let me know how it turns out! Good luck!

Sure, that's what I have in mind! Mechanics are the professionals in such cases. I'll have a look now and if I can't find anything, I'll definitely go to a mechanic. Thanks for your advice, really helpful! I'll let you know how it goes. Hopefully everything resolves quickly and without too much fuss. Have a nice day!
