Problems with parking distance control and electrical faults in Renault Avantime (model year 2001)

General electric malfunction

Park distance control without function

Fault stored

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hi folks, I've just got a problem with my Renault Avantime (built in 2001, gasoline engine). The parking distance control no longer works, general electrical faults have occurred, errors have been stored and a warning light in the speedometer is illuminated. I suspect that the radar sensor may be faulty. Have any of you ever had a similar problem? How did you solve it and what were your experiences in the workshop? Any tips and experiences are welcome! Many thanks in advance.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Renault Scenic (built in 1999). I'm definitely not an automotive expert, but I do have some experience with cars. In my case, the sensor was fouled. I went to a local garage and they fixed it for about 45 euros. They simply cleaned and recalibrated the sensor and everything was fine again. It could possibly be the same problem for you. Are there any other specific conditions or symptoms you can share with us? Maybe then I can say more about it.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. The last time my car had a service was at 56362 km and since then it has run maybe 100 km. So it's pretty new and I've never had anything like this before. I will definitely try your tip about cleaning the sensor. Hopefully that will help, otherwise I'll probably have to take it to the garage. Let's see what the guys there say. Does anyone else have any experience or tips? Any help is welcome. Thanks guys!

No problem, you're welcome! With such things, it can happen that a simple solution solves the problem. I would still recommend going straight to the workshop if cleaning the sensor doesn't help. Often it's just a small electrical fault that the experts can find more quickly. I had similar problems with my old Scenic and in the end it was a minor issue that could be fixed. Try cleaning the sensor first and let me know here if it works. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's nothing serious. If you have any further questions or uncertainties, I'll be happy to help. Good luck!

Hello, that was really kind of you, thank you! Your advice at least gives me a little more clarity and reassures me a little. I'll clean the sensor tomorrow and if that doesn't work, I'll definitely visit a workshop. I'll then let you know here what comes of it. Thanks again for your help and words of encouragement, I also hope it's nothing serious. You'll hear from me! Bye and have a nice evening!
