Problems with overheating and low coolant level in Toyota Hilux (2010) - troubleshooting tips and experience requested

Overheating

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Coolant level low

Hey guys, I have a problem with my Toyota Hilux (built in 2010), gasoline engine. The warning light in the speedometer is on, it is overheating and the coolant level is low. I suspect that it could be due to the coolant level being too low. Have any of you ever had similar problems and can give me some troubleshooting tips? I would be particularly interested to know how you had this fixed in the workshop and what experiences you have had. Many thanks in advance!

Hello, I once had a similar problem with my 2008 Toyota RAV4. I would say that I have a bit of experience with cars. My garage found that there was sporadic faulty communication between the control units. They then fixed it and it cost about 955.0 euros. Can you please provide more information about your car? Maybe then I can help you even better. Otherwise, I would advise you to go to your garage and have it checked. I hope that helps you.

Hey, thanks for your advice. Well, my Hilux has already done 182668 km, but the last service was recently, so it should actually be in good condition. I'll probably have to go to my garage and have it checked. In any case, thanks for your help!

Hello again, I think your course is right to visit the garage. Especially with that high mileage. It could be any number of issues - from a simple loss of coolant due to a leak, to more serious things such as a faulty water pump or a broken thermostat. Did I mention that my RAV4 also showed similar symptoms? It turned out that the cooling system sensor had stopped working and activated the warning light. The repair was not particularly expensive. It could be similar with your Toyota Hilux. In any case, make sure to get it checked as soon as possible. An overheated engine can lead to serious engine damage and you definitely want to avoid that. Hopefully it's nothing serious and your beloved Hilux will be back in shape soon! Good luck with it and keep me posted.

Thank you very much for your detailed answer. You have really helped me and I now feel more confident before I go to the garage. I hope it's nothing serious. Your experience with your RAV4 reassures me a little. I will definitely make an appointment as soon as possible. As soon as I know more, I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for your help!
