Problems with overheating and engine light on Toyota Hiace 2005

Check engine light on

Overheating

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2005 Toyota Hiace with a gasoline engine. It is overheating and the check engine light is on continuously. I thought it might be due to a faulty coolant thermostat, but I'm not sure. Can you guys share any experiences or tips with me, especially how you fixed this problem at the garage? Any info would help me! Thanks in advance.

Hey! Had a similar problem with my 2007 Toyota Proace. I would describe myself as someone with little car knowledge, so I took my car to the nearest garage. Turned out the cause was damage to the wiring harness. Cost me about 110 euros to fix. So I would suggest that you have it checked. Of course, there could be other reasons. Are there any other details about your car that could be helpful? Maybe that would help.

Hey, thanks for the tip! The damage to the wiring harness could well be the problem and I will definitely have it checked. My Hiace has about 30337 km on the clock so far and the last service was only recently. As far as I know, nothing was done to the wiring harness or anything. I hope this helps a little. Thanks again for the help!

Hey, no problem, glad if I can help! Given the mileage, I wouldn't expect the wiring harness to be the problem unless the car has really bad rust or something. That was the case with my Proace and that's why the wiring harness had to be replaced. During the last service, didn't the garage do anything to the thermostat? That could of course also be the cause, especially when it comes to overheating. It could be that it is simply stuck or broken. I would definitely have a specialist look at it, preferably at the garage. But don't get ripped off, a new thermostat shouldn't be that expensive. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it gets fixed quickly! Have a safe journey!

Hey, thanks for the detailed answer! Rust shouldn't really be a problem, but I'll definitely have the coolant thermostat checked at the garage. And thanks for the tip about the cost, I'll make sure I don't get ripped off. Hopefully it really is the thermostat and nothing worse. I'll definitely let you know when the problem has been fixed. Thanks again for the help, it really means a lot to me! Drive safe!
