Problems with overheating and engine light in a 2017 Citroen C3 - experience and solutions wanted

Check engine light on

Hello everyone, I currently have a strange problem with my Citroen C3 (year of manufacture 2017, gasoline engine). It overheats quite often and the engine light comes on. I think it might be the coolant thermostat, but I'm not sure. Have any of you had similar experiences? How did the garage fix it and what was your experience with it? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Citroen C4 (built in 2015, diesel). I'm definitely not a car mechanic, but I do have some experience with cars. I was told the problem was "damage to the wiring harness", which I had fixed at the garage for 110 euros. It could be the same problem with your car. Can you share more details about the symptoms? That might help me more to give you better tips. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. It's really nice of you to share your experience. My Citroen has 37843 kilometers on the clock so far and was last serviced a few months ago. Usually the overheating happens when I drive longer distances. The temperature gauge jumps up and the warning light comes on. As for the wiring harness, my garage didn't address that during my last service. But I will definitely have it checked. Many thanks for your help!

Hey, thanks for the additional info. It sounds like both problems - the overheating and the engine light - could be related. It was the same with my C4 at the time. I would really recommend checking the wiring harness at the garage. Maybe the problem is there after all. But if it's the coolant thermostat, replacing it shouldn't be too expensive. I can only advise you to take the car to the workshop as soon as possible. Otherwise, you run the risk of major engine damage and that will be really expensive. Stay on the ball and good luck!

Thank you very much for the helpful advice. It looks like I'll just have to take my Citroen to the garage and have it checked out. Thank you also for the warning about possible engine damage. We drivers have to support each other, don't we? I hope the repair won't be too expensive. But as you say, it's better to get it sorted quickly than run the risk of more trouble and higher costs. Thanks again for your time and help, I really appreciate it!
