Problems with overheating and check engine light on a 2017 Ford Explorer gasoline engine

Hi guys, I'm having problems with my 2017 Ford Explorer gasoline engine - it keeps overheating and the check engine light comes on. I think it might be the coolant thermostat, but I'm not sure. Do you guys have any experience with a problem like this and if so, what was done at the garage to fix it? Any help would be great! Thank you.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Ford Escape. I'm not a car professional now, but I have some experience. I had to take mine to the garage as there was damage to the wiring harness. I paid 110 euros for the repair. Could you perhaps give a few more details about your vehicle? Have you recently driven long distances or perhaps ignored an indicator light? This could help to better understand the problem. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for your answer. So, my Ford Explorer has now run 107418 kilometers. I haven't really driven long distances lately.... 30-40 kilometers a day at most. Before the overheating started, there was no warning light that I ignored. There were no problems after the last inspection, which was about a month ago. Maybe I should have the wiring harness checked at the garage. Thanks for the tip!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! It could actually be something to do with the wiring harness or the coolant thermostat. On my Ford Escape it was the wiring harness, but I've had a similar problem with my old Audi before and it was the thermostat. The symptoms were very similar to yours. So there's certainly no harm in having it checked at the garage. Maybe they'll do a full check right away and find other little things that could be causing the problem. And be sure to let us know what it was! Have a safe journey and hopefully the problem will be fixed quickly!

Hi, thanks for the advice again! Yes, you're right, I will have it checked at the garage and have a full check to be on the safe side. As we all know small signs are often a harbinger of bigger problems! I'll keep you posted on what comes out of it. Hopefully it's nothing major. Thanks again for your time and help! Drive safe and take care of yourselves!
